Memory issues while taking Tacrolimus

Posted by ssapp1 @ssapp1, Dec 12, 2022

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone had memory issues while taking Tacrolimus? Mainly forgetting a common word and you can’t think of it or short term memory issues? I sure do and I am getting a little nervous at work because of it.
If so, do you do anything to help your memory?
Thank you!!

Good Morning, Hugh. I want to welcome you to Connect and to let you know that "I get it- the memory thing".
I'm taking tacrolimus (Prograf) which has worked well for me for 16 years, and I have no experience with Advigraf. However, I have the memory thing and remember being told \by my transplant team that multi-tasking was my problem, and that I should stop multi tasking and focus on one thing at a time. Hmmm - I try to do that, and I've learned make lists of things I want to accomplish. (Yes, I misplace those). Glasses, keys, iphone,... are my downfall.

Hugh, Another thing to consider is whether your transplant team has drawn labs to check if the current dose of the Advograf is too high for you. Dosage adjustment might be part of your current memory concerns. I think you should discuss your memory concerns/new medication with your transplant team.
Are you able to contact your nurse coordinator? When is your next appointment?
What is their plan for follow-up with this newer medication?

I’ve done that… and found that I had flipped them up over my forehead!

Yes, in USA. Transplant at Mayo. And annual checkup at Mayo with routine labs every 3 months.
Are you having any kind of follow up?

I take the same 3 and the side effects are about the same as everyone else’s, but the shakes have finally stopped. Insomnia awful. Forget a few words. But I am overall fine. Happy Holidays 🎄 🎄
