Let's put some cheer : )))

Posted by surftohealth88 @surftohealth88, 2 days ago

This time of the year is for many (even for very healthy people) challenging and depression promoting, so let’s try to put some cheer in our small community by remembering “small things that can make us smile” no matter what ? The sight of our loved ones is an obvious choice, so let's think of the next best thing ; )- what sight, smell, sound or activity lifts your spirit at once ?

For me it is seeing any very tiny bird in my garden (warbler, finch, wren, vireo, hummingbird …) - I just melt instantaneously < 3 ! I LOVE watching their 100% enjoyment of every second of their life, always happy, always chatting, chasing, bathing - no matter what the weather looks like : )).

What is yours ? : )))

Oh dear North - I wish somebody told me that when I was growing up lol. I was raised to be a perfectionist and early on got very clear message that I better be the best in whatever I do or it is just not worth doing it at all. Since I was exceptional in dancing I was supported to do that 100% , but piano lessons were out as an option because that would "take away time" from doing what I do the best. I pleaded - but nope. I dreamed of playing piano my whole life and would take any opportunity to just "touch it" and play "by ear" when nobody was watching. I would stay hidden in a locker room and wait till everybody went home and sneak back to studio room and pretend playing piano on very old upright Welmar lol. At this ripe age of 62 my hands would perhaps be able to play some very, very basic kid's songs which would be really fun - but "loosing oneself in playing music for hours" ; ) I do not think is possible ha ha... BUT - I will go today to the garage and find my daughter's old piano books and refresh my basic knowledge lol - maybe I can at least play some carols this Christmas
: ))) ! ?

Me too! I'd get a 98 on a test and my dad would say "what happened to the other two points?" That led me to, in high school and college, only take classes where I knew I could get A's.

Fortunately, I learned the concept of "good enough" and now pursue anything that interests me regardless of whether I'm good at it or not. But I do fully understand the perfectionist messaging. I do sometimes wish I were young again and back in college and could pursue some more challenging subjects vs. just going for grades.

I live in and around conservation and preserves community.

I and my do get a joy from seeing deer out and walking around. They don't fear us and look at us like what is that strange living thing.

Some times deer jump my back fence and walk around my yard.

We also have tribes (and I mean tribes of up to a dozen turkeys) of turkeys that walk around everywhere. Somehow they have learned to walk on the sidewalks and grass areas and not on roads. But like pedestrians we all stop and let them cross.

I love watching birds also. They love to get into my my trees.

This is a great idea. I am heartened by seeing my 12 months old granddaughter, who was born very underweight, standing and talking out loud (not quite words yet...but still!) and showing other amazing progress.

Interesting how many recurring themes there are here and so many of the same things I enjoy—making music (classical piano for my own pleasure and my wife’s), nature (deer and birds, we even had a black bear in our yard last spring), cooking and baking (I recently perfected a consistent pie crust). Even when the radiation and ADT were at their worst, these things made life more bearable. My current favorite, however, is getting stronger, going longer, and losing fat after finishing ADT a little over a year ago. I still have deficits and may have some of them for life, but each time I conquer the next hurdle, it gives me a real high.

The park is called Aptos playground. It is in Balboa Terrace Right next to Saint Francis Woods And Ingleside Terrace.

My wife and I go swing dancing most Saturday nights. There’s a live band about 12 minutes away from my house in a bar/restaurant with a dance floor. Lots of seats around the dance floor and lots of people come Friday and Saturday nights when the band plays. There’s a lot of regulars and a lot of new people all the time. No minimum, We have a couple of club sodas since we’re on blood thinner and can’t drink much alcohol. The band plays 70s 80s 90s music, and even newer stuff, lots of rock themes. People come from all over. One really good dancing couple comes from 50 miles away almost every Saturday night. Not a lot of places like this. The band has a piano player that has a piano and two piano synthesizer, Plays them all at once. There’s a really good drummer And a guitar player who also plays the xylophone and has a dozen Harmonicas with all different tones that he plays with songs. They have a singer and the guys sing as well. They have a sax player most nights. It’s a really great place to go and we know all the band guys they wave to us every night when we arrive. We even talk to them on the side when they take a break get to know their personal lives. Really fun place.

Oooooohhh, that sounds soooo niiiiceee !!!
Lucky you !
There is nothing even remotely like that in South Bay : (((. *sigh
Even 2 semi- decent places that existed before which had at least some dancing floor (pretty tiny) now closed down : /. People nowadays just don't dance nor listen to good music - just boozing and snorting and smoking of all kind of "substances" *sigh There are some nice restaurants in here but that is not "it" : /. And on top of it all your bar is just 12 min away from your place ?! : ))) . Youuuu, lucky-ducky !!! ; )

That couple I mentioned that dries 50 miles comes from San Jose. I forget that you live in the Bay Area.

The club that I go to is Nick’s Restaurant and bar in Pacifica. You might come up one time and check it out.

Ha ha, I know, mine are very often reviewed, I got used to that XP. "Pet the cat" is very controversial thing ha ha.

What kind of cat do you have : ))) !? That sounds so cozy and comforting < 3. I can imagine her/him purring in the morning and saying soft "meow" greeting when you open your eyes : ))) Brings back my early childhood memories of spending summer days at my grandma's house. < 3 Thanks so much for sharing : )))

Yes, *sigh, it effects person on many levels. When I came to the USA I spoke some English but was so ashamed that I did not speak it well enough for my standards (which were subconsciously parental standards) that I refused to communicate at all : (((. My poor husband had to "speak for me" in every possible situation like private interpreter until I became brave enough to actually communicate with people. I truly admire my husband's patience ha ha. To this day I "hate my English" and avoid communication - I know that I sound chatty here since I LOVE to talk with people but I look over every post 20 times and still there are mistakes that bother me. Hey JC- nice to see you here, I was wondering this morning how are you doing and if I you will stop by to share your favorite sights : )

That all sounds so lovely < 3 !

Turkeys are very big and powerful birds ! Do you ever feel little bit intimidated with such a big tribe walking a sidewalk , ha ha, I must admit that I feel fear when I am near massive birds (like turkey, swan, crane etc) since I was attacked by a huge rooster as a child he he he ...
