Pleural effusion from Peritoneal Dialysis prior to kidney transplant.
Has anybody had this issue of a pleural effusion from Peritoneal Dialysis? ( A build up of fluid outside the lungs).
My husband was approved for a kidney transplant and was put on the list. They called him to set a date since I’ll be his direct donor since we are a match. But we discovered a pleural effusion 2 weeks ago and now the transplant has been put on hold. We have gone through 9 months of evaluations at Mayo and made it to the list. And this issue is holding him back. Extremely frustrating..Has anyone heard of this before or know anybody that had a pleural effusion? Thank you. And my best to you all.

Hi, my situation was different. I actually developed pleural effusion about 6 weeks post liver transplant. I had to have fluid drained weekly for about 4 weeks. Then the decision was made to have a tube inserted in my chest to drain all the fluid. I had to go into the hospital for 3 days until the fluid was drained and they watched to be sure I did not get any infections. Once the fluid was drained they insert medicine into me to patch up the space where the fluid was coming from.
Just thought I would share my experience.
Good luck!
