Low Back Pain Going into Hip and Leg

Posted by donaldjames1 @donaldjames1, Dec 8, 2020

I have had 5 surgeries/fusions on my back and neck. I have not been able to get out of pain. I have lower right back pain, goes into my hip and into right leg. They think it might be my hip now, but doctor took and xray of hip a d they looked fine, he said. So I am in a position where I'm on pain meds and dont know who to see that can help me. I need help be a use of the pain when I get up. I also have pain in between shoulder blades which is secondary to my right lower back. I have had MRI done and they do not see what it may be... I'm just tired of being in pain with no life. I know God sent me to this site to find out options. Can someone help?

I am in the same situation, 5 operations and so many cortosteroid injections from L2 to S1 and rhyzotomys I cant count anymore. Physical therapy continuously, pain meds and all kinds of therapeutic devices. I'm considering a spinal stimulator after 13 years of this but not crazy about, maybe a pain pump. Still researching the options

@laughlin1947
and everyone on this post.

The conclusion that I reached about me after a post by someone who had pain on outer leg after hip surgery is that she and I both have a tight tendon on the outer leg all the way to the attachment below the knee.
So, in my case, I realize that I need to somehow stretch this tendon.

My osteoporosis PT said that one leg was tighter than the other.
She was giving me exercises but did not stress to me which exercise would fix this and why this was so important.

I wish she had explained this better and stressed these tendon stretching exercises and why….

Wow! I am so sorry. I’m not in this particular group but when I saw what you said about the back suffering you have had for so long, then suddenly it went into your glutes, hip, leg, it sent warning bells off. If you don’t object, may I please suggest that you see a vascular surgeon asap & have ultrasounds taken of your abdominal aortal artery, and possibly femoral arteries in as well? The exact same thing that happened to me, which is what caught my eye. Turned out I had an abdominal aortal aneurysm (on top of my still pretty gnarly back problems). The tests are a piece of cake and well worth the time. Sorry for butting in.

Have you tried marijuana? Of course this depends on your state laws today. There have been studies that show positive results with pain reduction. But, you need to becareful like any drug. It takes a little time to experience the effect and understand how you react.

Hi, I understand your pain.I have the same. Fused left si joint, and currently have a really messed up spine. I have two cysts, on my spine that they have to take care of and multiple disks that need to be taken care of. I'm going back to the neurosurgeon next week. I have the same exact pain in as you that goes from my low back to my hip to my groin and down my leg.They say it's the cysts on my spine and the degeneration of the discs.So they're probably gonna fuse my L1-S1 as well. Please find a neurosurgeon that you can see and get their opinion. I have had r f a and many injections in my spine in my hip and in my si.Joints. but when they did the test injection for my back in my lumbar region, the pain went totally away.The hip pain the groin pain the leg pain.But it was only six hours.So i'm going to see if they can make it last. I hope you find some relief.God bless.

@bobweller I have a medical marijuana card. My problem is, I don’t have anyone to tell me what strain of marijuana will help me with fibromyalgia pain.

@fibrowoman If pot is legal in your state(CA,IL,MI,MN,CO) go to a dispensary and ask them.
Or a medical marijuana store.

Yes, marijuana is legal for both medicinal and recreational use. For me, it does nothing for pain, and I just sit there like a bowl of cream of wheat.

Thinking of getting a pain pump installed for si joint, hip & butt pain. Has anyone tried the pump ? I’ve tried everything but seeing a witch doctor & making a brew of eye of newt & toad lips. 😉 No matter what, we have to keep moving as best we can & finding laughter everyday, even when we are in pain hell.
