Low Back Pain Going into Hip and Leg
I have had 5 surgeries/fusions on my back and neck. I have not been able to get out of pain. I have lower right back pain, goes into my hip and into right leg. They think it might be my hip now, but doctor took and xray of hip a d they looked fine, he said. So I am in a position where I'm on pain meds and dont know who to see that can help me. I need help be a use of the pain when I get up. I also have pain in between shoulder blades which is secondary to my right lower back. I have had MRI done and they do not see what it may be... I'm just tired of being in pain with no life. I know God sent me to this site to find out options. Can someone help?

The same thing is happening to me. I had a left hip replacement in March. My hip is painful, and I have pain in my right leg shin. My hip surgeon says there is nothing wrong with me, that the hip looks fine after an MRI done recently. I am thinking of seeking another opinion, but I have already had 2 MRI's this year. I don't know what to do, but I can't have any quality of life living in pain. I see a pain management dr., but he is only giving me a very low dose of pain meds. They aren't helping very much. I am wondering should I seek the opinion of a back surgeon? I am so glad you got relief. I wish you luck with your ablation.

5 Reactions@mm1 did you ever get this Sprint? I just scheduled for one.
I've had pain in my left hip and thigh for 5 or 6 years and have been to multiple doctors. All they can say is "physical therapy, physical therapy, physical therapy". After thousands of clam shells, bridges and planks, I'm no better than when I started. I take hydrocodone when it gets too bad. I just quit PT again after only 2 sessions because it took 3 days afterwards until I could function again. It seems like my young therapist thought I was a college athlete not a 78 year old woman with fibromyalgia. I also just stopped low dose naltrexone because there was no improvement of my pain after 9 weeks. It also made me somewhat nauseous. My PCP told me I would just have to live with it.

9 ReactionsI’m so sorry for what you are going through. I also have lower back pain and have tried getting injections. I know some people who got them and they got relief for a few months each time. I have had the shots on multiple occasions and never got relief at all. I’m now considering trying acupuncture.

Injuries was rest and pain meds. Acupuncture has not cured but helps relive the spasms

6 Reactions@bunstuffer I feel for you. You are my age , same issues. I just was told my leg pain is sciatica, worse of course because of FM. I was toll aquacise and exercise. I can't do exercises just some stretches because of a torn rotator cuff which is not treatable and swimming is not possible because of the cold pool water for the fibromyalgia. So I use rub A535 on the leg. Getting so tired of pain. All the best to you.

5 Reactions@bunstuffer I truly am sorry for the pain you are going through and for not being listened to regarding the unhelpfulness of PT. I had severe pain in my left thigh and lower back. It would crawl down to my left ankle sometimes. PT and pain medicines (Gabapentin, Meloxicam and Tizanidine) did not solve it. The x-rays and lumbar spine MRI did finally show what was happening and that got me to the pain management specialist and I then had lumbar spine injections. It totally worked for me. I know it doesn't work for everyone, so I am grateful. Before, I was unable to take a step without shooting pain, depending on my walker to lean on to take a break for the ten steps to the next room. I often had to lean my trunk over to the right for a while and wait for a little relief.
Maybe a second opinion from a pain specialist would help you to navigate the pain. I know it's hard to do anything above and beyond the day to day tasks while living with pain. I do hope you find relief. You deserve it

4 ReactionsMay I suggest that you do some research in your area for a pain management group. Check out thew ratings of each doctor in the organization. Then make your choice. BUT DO your research. May God give you wisdom and discernment.

1 Reaction@vkzimmer50 Agreeing with you in compassion for @bunstuffer; and Ditto re your life experience. Diagnosed with FM years ago, I still don't understand what's going on with that; but just a few years ago, a name was finally given to this awful pain from sacroiliac down to hip and leg, so similar to what you described - Spondylosis. 40 years ago (I'm 85 now) I had two or three episodes of sudden shooting pain stopping me dead in my tracks & waiting for relief. The doctor told me then that it wasn't uncommon for women who have delivered children to have a nerve pinched right at that point that spreads for delivery and returns after. Now, however that pain is 'regular' rather than occasional and I've been on the meds you mentioned also. At one point my Pain Management Dr. gave me an injection (? cortisone-like is all I remember) which helped for almost a year. Right now I'm on Duloxetine which had been helping for a year or so also. Now as the pain is spreading to hip and leg, I have a new appointment with my pain specialist.
"Above and beyond the day to day tasks" has become an impossibility with the Fibro acting up. I keep thinking I can put more in the day that Fibro is going to allow. LOL
And thank you to all who share, helping us not to fall into a pity pot.

Would you know what the name of the medicine/material is that was your lumbar spine injection? Was it a singular injection of the spinal injection, or was it the 24 shot spinal ablation (12 to deaden nerve endings, 12 steroid medication injections)? Did you ever try Tramadol for back pain relief?
