Dr. wants me on new med, Googling puts me off

What med? Google is great! Except when you scare the c**p out of yourself. Google is gonna give you every outcome of the medication they have. To cover their own butts. That means if during the trial, one person out of three hundred had a heart attack. And it had nothing to do with the medication, they have to say it because it happened while they were on the medication.
I've been on a lot of meds from as long as I can remember.And have very few side effects, or even complications from them messing up each other. Maybe just take a breath, ask your doctor about it and see what you think. I hope it gets better. God bless you.

@christine5 anti depressants /meds for bipolar that my doc wants me on.

@tisme I am on both plus a multiple heart meds, for years now. Its really okay to. Be nervous. My best suggestion would be start the meds. Maybe start one a month or two so you know if you'll get some kind of reaction, which med is causing it.
This is all in my humble opinion.
I would, from my heart, suggest you keep the line of communication open with your provider. It's very important that you can talk to that person.

I would definitely following what your Doc says. It’s important for you to maintain a direction with the medication so your Doc can measure whether it’s helping you get better. Take the med. I’ve had many years of taking different meds to help and I’ve changed meds as my doctor has told me to and it works! You can tell and should tell your Doc when it’s not working. It happens to all of us fighting with our body, heart issues, depression issues, anxiety, etc, etc. Have patience with your Doc. They know what’s best for you.

Everyone goes through the same issue so you’re not by yourself. It’s hard but you can do it. Your body grabs the medicine and still wants it so that transition is hard sometimes especially if you are on some med that is specific for your medical issue.

@tisme Sometimes we need to try out a new regimen to see if it is good for us. And unfortunately, we cannot do it without taking them. Quite a quandary. I can certainly understand why you would be concerned. Wondering what the prescribing doctor has to say about that? Are you willing to take the risk of trying something out and see if the combination is right for you?

got a diagnosis of Bipolar from my first psychiatrist ( so far its been gp's and psychologists). The psych wants me on sodium valproate, and as with the other meds my gp has recommended something keeps telling me not to., Im only on effexor cos I cant get off it. what if this med ends up the same, great when it works but if it stops ................. how hard will it be to get off it.

See a psychiatrist. This is one diagnosis that really does require a specialist.

That must be so hard for you! Not being able to get off a medication that apparently isn't helping as much as it was! I'm so sorry for you! Have you done any research on the side effects of the medication they want you to try? The Mayo Clinic is a good website to search those on. They are reliable. Your feeling of not wanting to start a new medicine is possibly a good thing to follow if you can! Also keep in mind that often money could play a part in prescribing things. My husband had lung cancer and was given Keytruda which nearly killed him. When he said he would no longer get Keytruda treatments the cancer doctor actually became very angry with him for that decision. She didn't care that he had become ill from it and almost died. I checked with the insurance company and discovered that Keytruda cost $25,000 per infusion! Needless to say, we changed cancer doctors! Without Keytruda, my husband lived another 14 years before he died in 2024.

The one thing that worked well for my husband and me was prayer. We asked God for help and we got it. God helped us get through a very bad time. Just talk to God like he's your best friend and he is! After all, he made you and he can fix you! I'll say a prayer for you also. I'm sure things will work out for you.
