2025 Fall Booster: Get it or not?
I am in a quandary. I've had LC since 2022. I was fully vaccinated before my first infection. In Oct 2023, I got a Pfizer booster, and my symptoms flared up and set me back for months. I have avoided boosters since then. I am mostly well now (finally!), although I still experience some fatigue and joint pain. The question is: Do I get the 2025 fall booster or not? If so, do I receive the Pfizer booster in line with my prior vaccines and boosters? Should I go to Novavax instead? Is it less problematic? Any firsthand knowledge is appreciated. THX

You are assuming that the boosters cause more inflammation than another bout with an actual Covid infection, which I rather doubt.
Personally I find of the prospect getting Covid again much more threatening, as I would think most sensible people likewise would.
I've had the forerunner to Long Covid--M.E. or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome--before, and I think they're likely the same phenomenon, and I came down with it originally via what seemed like a regular flu.
I really feel that, although some people are possibly hyper-sensitive to the after effect of the vaccine, it's generally preferable to be protected by it (even if the protection isn't actually 100%, but does reduce the severity), than to leave oneself exposed to whatever the latest variant is circulating, and potentially becoming quite ill.
I've remained vaccinated against Covid from nearly when it first was available, as I suspected that I might get quite sick because of my earlier experience. I managed to not get Covid at all until a year-and-a-half ago, and it was quite mild. Unfortunately, it did indeed transform itself into LC, mainly as chronic fatigue.
As far as the effects of the vaccine itself, other than feeling like I had the flu for one day after my very first shot years ago (and maybe its soonafter booster), I haven't had any particular reaction. I got the latest formulated booster a month ago, along with my annual flu vaccination, and maybe felt a little more tired than usual the next day.
I feel really good about being (somewhat) protected from further infections.
Apparently some people do indeed react badly to Covid-19 vaccinations, but they appear to be a small minority.
Meanwhile, it's obvious that anti-vaccination hysteria in general has become prevalent in this country, including from the very highest levels (who don't necessarily have any bona fide medical expertise), and this is placing the nation into a position, potentially, of very high risk. Look at the current measles outbreak, as an example!
I would hate to see some of that misinformation leaking into this community.

1 ReactionIm not gonna get any more covid shots.Had two.A few years back...5 actually.Right around the time I got Covid, then long covid.
Connection?
Lots of people saying they got sick after the shots.I never wondered really.
@sandguy "You are assuming that the boosters cause more inflammation than another bout with an actual Covid infection, which I rather doubt".
If your body is already being damaged and trying to heal, adding more inflammatory 'boosters' or anything else causing inflammation is the LAST thing you want happening.Just a bad idea in my opinion.Jus sayin.
At one point I was so screwed up that the dr prescribed me a 5 day script of some steriod...can't remember just now what it was actually called.Prednizone?Maybe.I actually felt amazing clear.Of everything. For about two weeks. Then it calmed down again over time and a was struggling daily.I wouldn't mind doing it again...just to 'compare' how I feel now.Mostly in my thinking.
@h2998sc My first shot....I felt fine as I remember.I cannot remember if it was before or after i caught covid. The store offered a free shot.So I went for it.Got the moderna shot.I'm thinking it may have been BEFORE I caught covid.I remember everyone around me got covid. But I didn't.So I didn't immediately get the shot.My gut's telling me it was before I got covid. The store offered anyone 100 $ to get the shot. And yeah,I got it.I was feeling fine. Then I wasn't.
5 years out now...so much better.Just my thinking.Bad time for 'thinking issues' at 72.lol.Can't tell if it's NORMAL what's going on,or if it's.......the beast within...lol.Fun times

1 Reaction@sandguy Thanks sandguy...got two others also...been awesome partners with me now for 6 years.Up to and through it all...I'm super blessed.

I had a similar experience. First two shot, no problem at all. Got sick with COVID, right after each booster. People say it’s impossible, but a fact for me, within 24 hours. Work from home and it wasn’t from exposure before the booster. Long COVID now for 2 years.
I had the original moderna vax and was up to date on boosters when I got covid in November of 2022. I was diagnosed with Long Covid in January 2023, so nearing the end of my third year. I was warned that a booster might set me back, and the booster I got in early August 2024 set me on my heels for a full month. I haven't gotten a booster since. Being in continual crash for that long is awful. I am wondering about getting the most recent booster, but still super cautious. I still mask up in crowded spaces because I'm not current. Q.
I'm not getting the fall booster, as every booster set me back by a lot and my doctor advised against it in my particular case. Everyone reacts differently. For me, the boosters made me so sick that it wasn't worth it. LC for five years, going on six come March.

1 ReactionI have been getting the Novavax for the past three boosters. Much less symptom-activating. It has not improved my long COVID symptoms, but unlike the others it did not activate them. The doctor I saw at the long COVID clinic in Rochester endorsed this choice for me, and my primary care physician strongly recommended taking all steps possible to avoid reinfection (including vaccination).
