@maverick1791 You are right …no signs before it dissects.
My husband had a >5.0 ascending thoracic and he was told to see a Cardiothoracic Surgeon. ( his father died 1965) and sister successful surgery 1993 )had aortic aneurysms.
He refused to continue getting CT ‘s and would not see surgeon.
His aorta dissected in 2007, he was alone at homehe grabbed phone as he fell down an called 911. Neighbor called me.. I met him at hospital… there was a cardiothoracic surgeon there.. They performed 10 hours of surgery….he survived, but he was out of it for several weeks. Had ICU psychosis and needed PT. for several more weeks as inpatient.
He came home and continued to improve….we had until this past January and then he collapsed and died peacefully from episode of V tach.
Don't ignore even if you are afraid… please

@komara
What is endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR)?

Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a procedure to fix an aortic aneurysm in the abdomen. It's called endovascular because a doctor repairs the aneurysm from the inside of the damaged blood vessel (the aorta). This is a minimally invasive procedure. Local or general anesthesia might be used but it is not a surgery.

Im not sure if you have the same type of aneurysm BUT a second opinion can’t hurt? It might be reassuring to know.

@komara
That makes sense. Yours is in the chest, mine was in the stomach.
I spent 28 hours in the hospital with two small cuts in the groin area & no pain.
Follow up Ultrasound was negative. No leaks or graph movement.
Ill have another one in 6 months.
If all goes well, yearly until?

I’m no physician, but my husband has an abdominal aortic aneurysm that was 5.2 cm which was monitored every 6 months and had EVAR surgery two weeks ago. He also has an ascending aortic aneurysm that is monitored with imaging and cardiologist visit every 6 months. If your cardiologist isn’t monitoring you yearly and better yet every 6 months with imaging, I’d highly suggest you find a new cardiologist. Good luck to you.

@komara- hi, that’s a lot of info, but all these things Houston is running by you you need to do what he’s telling you; what your dr should have told you all along. @houston13 is giving you some critically important and far beyond professional advice. You need all new dr’s, best care you can get (Mayo/Cleveland clinic) and do it like yesterday because these nuts you’ve been dealing with are beyond incompetent but you’re gonna die so please just listen to @houston13, he is super intelligent and he CARES! Please hurry as your situation is dire. Don’t want to scare you, but you should be. Lot of these cardiologists are professional at cashing your insurance co checks, but that’s down right unethical, should be illegal but work on you 100%, chop chop- get rid of anyone who’s supposed to be taking care of your heart and all these people in this group are really on top of these issues because they know where you’re at and they’re scared for you and so am I!! Get right on it- God I can’t believe they have people like you’re dealing with still practicing. Please take good care of you- keep us all informed and this group will research whatever they can to help because you need it and you can count on me too to help in any way I can. Good luck

@komara I started thinking you were in the UK when you said you had lost 2 stones of weight, I understand the health system runs differently there and you have to wait long to be seen and referred but I imagine there are ways and exceptions to be seen urgently by a cardiologist and/or surgeon, they are not just going to let you go through this completely untreated and make you wait. Are there any advocacy services that can help you?

@komara I have to admit I am beyond surprised a cardiologist would refer to your aneurysm as "small", you should be closely monitored, your aneurysm is on the larger side. Mine was 5.2 cm when my surgeon recommended it should be repaired. I understand you have other comorbidities that could make your surgery risky, but all of those factors would be evaluated by a qualified surgeon, he/she would help you make the best decision based on all the risks. Please find a surgeon (and I would say a new cardiologist too) ASAP. All the best to you!!!

@houston13
My aortic arch aneurysm was 4 when it was discovered, by accident as so many are. 9 months later it ended up being an emergency aortic dissection at 4.5. I was waiting for my next appointment to see if there was any changes when it dissected. I had a terrific surgeon at Mayo and I had a great recovery. I was patched in 3 places. I am very lucky.

Best Wishes -
