I’m having a hard time finding something to look forward to each day

Posted by triciaann99 @triciaann99, Oct 25 12:06pm

I’ve been on a bad depression for the last three years. I’m very lonely in this having a companion. I am somewhat functional during the day, but what keeps me going as I know that I can take my sleeping pill at night, Ambien and get a good nights sleep. That is what I look forward to for so many years my doctor now has tapered me off Ambien because she believes I have abused which I have to an extent.
I am on Wellbutrin for depression. I don’t see that is helping, but I am just wondering what others do to make it through the day and what they look forward to because I have lost so many of my interests.

Hi Annie!
Welcome to the USA! Many of our families also came from Europe like you did. What part of Europe are you from? My family originally came from England, Ireland and Scotland back in the 1700's.

I'm so sorry you are in constant pain and have been for so long! That's awful for you! However, I admire the fact that you are doing your own research regarding your health situation. The Dr. Joe that you mentioned makes a lot of sense. I will look him up.

I know what lonliness is like because my husband recently died of lung cancer in 2024. I know he's up in Heaven and we'll be reunited in God's time but for right now it's very lonely for me. My husband was 83 and I'm 79. All of our friends are all up in Heaven with my husband. I'd be glad to correspond with you if you feel good enough.

That is so good that you pray! God is there for us even when it seems like he isn't. I pray everyday and have had a lot of prayers answered for which I am very grateful.

I hope your pain goes away. I'll say a prayer for you. You need a miracle and we'll just have faith that you will get one!

I wish you the best.
PML

I'm sorry about your husband passing in 2012. I know that is hard.
To private message click on a person's name like on @pml that's written in blue. (Black won't work.) That will take you to another page. On that page in the right hand corner is an image of an envelope. Clicking on that will take you to private messaging. There might be easier ways but I don't know of them. There is a "Help" section on here also where you could ask.
Good Luck!

@kndaustin71 Zoloft made my depression worse to the point that I became suicidal. My doctor immediately changed my meds to 2 different anti-depressants that I've been on for several years now.

@mrmacabre what were the medicines you are now on.

I suggest coming to grips with the fact that like millions of Americans you suffer from depression. Then recognize it is nothing to be ashamed of and the stigma regarding mental health is finally ending.
Try adding Zoloft and Buspar to your Wellbutrin since it has worked for me for over thirty years. I am not a doctor but a psychiatrist put me on that and it changed my life.
I went on to have a successful career in sales and raise two beautiful children and be blessed with five beautiful grandchildren.
Some of the most successful people throughout history have suffered from depression. Just be thankful that we have SSRI’s and other tools to fight it that many of them never had.
Also I recommend you see the movie “Road to nowhere “ which is based on the life of Bruce Springsteen. He is one of those people that got help and I think everyone can agree he went on to live a very successful life.
Good luck to everyone out there.

@djg1951 Everyone’s body chemistry reacts differently to every SSRI and although it is not easy because they can up to six weeks to start working experiment and find one that works for you. It might even be a combination of drugs.
Good luck and you are certainly not alone. Millions of people around the world suffer from depression and as more and more people go public with their struggles the stigma is going away.
I only wish the same could be said for hearing loss. Unfortunately they are still finding ways to repair or replace damaged hair cells in your inner ear. They will solve that but probably not in my lifetime. Until then we have to live with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Not ideal they continue to get better.
