Has anyone done balance (vesibular) therapy?
I'm having trouble with balance. My hearing doctor is sending me to physical therapy for it. Have any of you ever heard of or done balance therapy ?

Yes, I’ve had vestibular therapy for six weeks, and, in addition to the office exercises, I had a set of exercises to do at home the following six months. I didn’t notice much improvement. Then I dealt with dizziness side effects of more cardiac medicines (metoprolol, flecanide and Eloquis). Meanwhile, my balance eroded much further. This is the trajectory of NF2 as the tumors affect vestibular nerves. Consequently, to avoid falls, I do everything recommended by my physicians: Do seated yoga and exercises, use a rollator, get rid of area rugs, wear sensible shoes, etc.

1 ReactionThanks gor the info. I'm gonna give it a try
@poofy, balance retraining exercisesis sometimes called vestibular rehabilitation. Therapists trained in balance problems design a customized program of balance retraining and exercises. Therapy can help you compensate for imbalance, adapt to less balance and maintain physical activity. To prevent falls, your therapist might recommend a balance aid, such as a cane, and ways to reduce your risk of falls in your home.
Have you started balance therapy with the physical therapist yet?
@colleenyoungnot yet. I'm waiting for insurance and refurals. Thank you so much for all the information.

1 ReactionYes! I'm 5 months post retrosigmoid crainiotomy and I did weekly vestibular retraining for about 3.5 months in a neuro rehab office, and now I'm doing the exercises at home on my own. Therapy helped me tremendously and still does. My balance was really affected after my surgery and it took me about eight weeks to feel comfortable without a walker. Now I'm walking on uneven surfaces with confidence and have started hiking again. I'm also starting to be more comfortable walking at night. You can contact me privately for more information if you'd like. Good luck!
@jnf thank you for the info. I'm glad to hear that it really helped you. I haven't gone yet. Still waiting on insurance

1 ReactionI finally got into the balance therapy. Its something else. He makes me dizzy or unsteady trying to find out what sets if off. So he can figure out the best treatment. I'm not crazy about that part. Hahaha. He sent me home with some exercises ( I hate homework) I'll see how it goes.
@poofy , how are you doing with your homework? Are you able to keep it up? Is it helping?
I doing well with the homework. The therapist is tryng to cause the balance problems with the exercises but my body is refusng to cooperate. We can't really lock down what sets it off. But I'm still doing the homework. Thanks for askng. How are you?

1 Reaction@colleenyoung I did balance therapy for 7 months and did absolutely no good. Waste of time three days a week!
