2025 Fall Booster: Get it or not?

Posted by greenshade @greenshade, Sep 30 4:05pm

I am in a quandary. I've had LC since 2022. I was fully vaccinated before my first infection. In Oct 2023, I got a Pfizer booster, and my symptoms flared up and set me back for months. I have avoided boosters since then. I am mostly well now (finally!), although I still experience some fatigue and joint pain. The question is: Do I get the 2025 fall booster or not? If so, do I receive the Pfizer booster in line with my prior vaccines and boosters? Should I go to Novavax instead? Is it less problematic? Any firsthand knowledge is appreciated. THX

@boykin1017 the covid virus is not in the vaccine. The m stands for messenger. It sends messenger cells. It can not alter dna. That is the beauty of the technology. It is a god given miracle that the technology of mrna was developed at penn medicine and ready to go when they rcvd the genetic sequencing of the covid virus. They tweek it for new strains cuz viruses are extraordinary and mutate. U have to keep up on those dirty rascals. If u in fact had a reaction to the vaccine, they are studying that and hopefully help is on the way for u and all of us. I have no fear of science and believe that whatever they learn from figuring out how this vaccine affected you, will help them develop a quick cure. Mrna technology is responsible for curing sickle cell in children suffering in great pain. The future is gene editing and figuring out how to save us with a needle or an IV. I know gene editing seems scary and so futuristic but the reality is here. I am an old star trek fan from the 70's and the dr would use a scanning device to diagnose and heal. I always wondered if that would ever be possible. I saved my childrens cord blood stem cells when they were born. It has been frozen for 21 and 24 yrs. I would love my dna to find the cure. I am part of the helix genome study. My sister and i both. Is the prospect of people doing bad stuff with this technology real? Yes. But the benefits outweigh the risks. Its like AI. Double edged sword.

@pdoubrava I don't doubt the science and what you say is all well and good except for one caveat: I assume you personally have not experienced a set back of symptoms while trying to recover from Long COVID after taking the booster. I experienced a set back after my Oct 2023 booster from which I am still recovering. As the proverb goes, "What's good for the goose may not be good for the gander." I do believe you are correct in assuming science will eventually figure out how to curb the mRNA booster set back phenomenon for Long COVID sufferers but until it does, we are left between a rock and a hard place. It is difficult for people who believe in the science to accept unless they have experienced it. And it is only in the last year or so that science has acknowledged the set back phenomenon.

@greenshade amen!! U nailed it. This is not a political issue. Its a science issue. Vaccines save lives. But this vaccine can be very dangerous for PASC survivors.

@pdoubrava Thank you! People who have not experienced this problem with the mRNA vaccines/boosters simply have a hard time accepting that those of us who have are not psychosomatic.

My physicians do not bring it up and only offered me the flu shot this season which i had no response to. I rcvd all Moderna vaccines and boosters up until i went to an interesting seminar that i was invited to and which resulted in an appt with one of their drs. He told me adamently to not get anymore covid vaccines. He was with a lab out of Massachusetts that had immunoglobin and other advanced injections for LC and bone/joint restoration. It cost thousands. Did not try. Its interesting that there are people in this group who state they have never had covid and neither has their family. Are they in here because they have symptoms of ME/CFS and they are saying they got it from the vaccine? The technology with the vaccine is mrna. Is this causing similar inflammation? The vaccine saved millions and im so grateful they developed it so quickly, but every vaccine is going to have issues. Did they tweek the new booster? I have no idea. I feel very vulnerable to any virus, especially covid. P.s. my preferred name for long covid is PASC. There were many who have same symptoms of LC way prior to covid. Other viruses have caused the exact same response. There are many of us PASC survivors.

Like everything else what works/worked for one person may not work for you. You pay your money and take your chances as the saying goes. I may have had the VID, but been asymptomatic. Expecting others to tell you what to do is a fool's errand.

Too bad they can't tell from your DNA profile how you will react to the VID or any of the vaccines. One would think that something like that would be a priority. Of course a constantly mutating virus would be more challenging to correlate.

Hi there, appreciate your candor and I am in your camp. I endured five years of Long Covid and most of my symptoms are still with me. I won't be doing a Flu shot as I sincerely don't want any other complications. Cheers

@jamtn I hear you! My motto is "better safe than sorry." I wish I had the protection of the vaccines/boosters but I am not going to chance another setback. Warm regards!
