Losing a photographic memory

Posted by jonnyboy @jonnyboy, Oct 16 6:53am

Ever since I was a youth I had a photographic memory I could remember just about a written sentence in the books I knew by heart, my past I kept special but I came down with long Covid and that brain fog was like a memory whipe and it’s completely gone.

@moecavicchi I have had a lot of success with NAC. I don’t take it consistently, but I have had short periods of time (2-4 days) where I take 600-1200 mg a day, and it has been hugely helpful for cognitive function and overall energy and PEM reduction. I have to be careful not to take it late in the day, because it makes me energized and awake. I use the Thorne brand, which is very reputable. NAC is the precursor molecule for glutathione, which is our body’s natural antioxidant. I have had benefits in my gut health from taking it as well as just feeling so much better. Makes me think that some of my issues are due to oxidative stress.

I am a first time responder ! No official dx of long covid but have had huge memory changes , many “ black holes” of time , tho function day to day mostly normally .. total neuro eval was normal , scans etc, with dr deciding aging brain ,I’m 80. I’d had a TGA episode after my first covid vax after which the memory issues seemed to have begun. Neuro doesn’t feel related but my pcp can see it .Im an NP so I of course have lots of opinions! My kids stare when I’ve no clue to what they are referring at times ..makes me so sad .
On low dose exelon which I think is helping tho worse again after a covid booster …..shouldn’t have gotten it …..fluoxetine seems to be helping some ,AND BEING A SERETONinreuptake drug it should be helpful.
Lots of supportive friend and husband .. just wish it was better defined

I didn't mention in my earlier post (I don't think...heck, maybe I did, lol...darn long covid...) that my inability to draw or remember started after my second covid vax. It was within an hour. So, reading about your TGA episode after your first vaccine struck me. I don't mention the reaction to the vaccine to anyone, because it does not seem to sit well, which I understand, to those who are still getting the vaccine. I was never an anti-vaccine person, but now I am wary, especially now that I have reviewed the pages of what vaccines you are supposed to report if one brings about a poor response. I am sure glad my kids are grown and I don't have to make those decisions about others any longer. I stopped getting the vaccine boosters.

My Internal Medicine provider and also another NP in another office, fortunately, acknowledges the response to the vaccine. The Internal Medicine physician says that some people do not clear whatever vaccine is given, and it keeps cycling through the body. It can happen with other types of vaccines, not all, some, which is probably those that are listed on the vaccine adverse reporting website through the government.

But I just thought I would let you know that what I wrote earlier about what I cannot do, initially came about from the vaccine, well, and many covid infections probably did not help. And what you wrote helped me to not feel alone in that. - Thank you
