Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

@hpgl19119 Wow so LDN actually helped you with the nasal issues? Our bodies really are so complex.

Did you have to build up to 12.5mg? I only ask because it seems high in comparison to other experiences I’ve read about.

LDN isn’t covered by my insurance sooo doc started me at 25 (half a 50mg tab) but when he told me why, I started cutting them down. 🤷‍♀️

I find Betaine HCI and digestive enzymes with meals plus probiotics to be helpful. The gut stays as clean as possible. I actually had surgery recently to reduce turbinate in order for nasal spray to reach proper area, which it couldn’t prior to surgery. Using ipatropium spray and doing much better. Drastic solution but worth the pain since I’m no longer up all night trying to get rid of phlegm running down my throat. I also am gluten sensitive and avoid wheat which causes burning stomach pain. Maybe eliminate gluten.

I agree with avoiding gluten. Sourdough seems to be okay, if I really want bread, but it has a longer ferment time and I guess that does something regarding reducing the gluten. But...overall, avoiding gluten sure helps.

I’m so glad that you all are finding some things that help…. I went gluten free for 3+ months, but it didn’t make too much of a difference for me, unfortunately.

When even water brings on the mucus response in the throat, I have no idea how to counter it. I keep thinking it has to be a stomach issue, but I’ve had a million diagnostic tests and nothing comes back outside of normal - but the issues I’m having are definitely not “normal.”

I can. Mucous pours down my throat and I have a chronic cough. Steroids help only for a few weeks and then it returns. I’m miserable.

yes, that's when it happens to me too, always after i eat or drink anything, i irrigate my sinuses with a navage, which is like a netti pot thing. if i don't do this then the phlegm will build in my sinuses...it really gets thick if it builds.. at the end of this month it will be 3 years for me from covid...i have a lot of other symptoms but this one is the one i hate most because it is always there.....hang in there..

I’m with you. It will be four years with similar symptoms.

because all this thick phlegm always stays in my throat it really has messed up my sinuses to the point i do get the nasal drip down my throat, the weird thing is it builds in my throat after i eat or drink anything....so to help keep it from building in the sinuses i was prescribed "budesonide" that i use with my navage..it does help keep the nasal drip down. this stuff flushes out my sinus cavities so i can breath.. but i still can't figure out why the phlegm/mucus keeps building...i have alot of other symptoms to that come and go alot but if i could pick just one to go away...it would be the thick yuck in my throat!!!

I tried budesonide also. It didn’t stop the drip but also uncomfortably dried out my nose.

@lauralej okay thanks - good to know…. I was going to try Ipratropium with Budesonide, but maybe I will hold off. The Ipratropium already dries me out too much and then I feel like I have a fire in my nose.
