I’m trying to be really good, but my downfall is Wine! I do eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fish. Darn that Wine sneaks in every night.😀

We focus so much on diet and exercise, which are important…but also need to focus on joy of living. Enjoy that glass of wine guilt free!

I do worry that discussion of diet and cancer can kind of suggest some responsibility on the part of patients for their disease. This is the problem with holistic approaches involving diet, exercise, stress management etc. We need to keep in mind that causes of and outcome of our cancers are not likely to be within our control in that sense though we can improve our health like anyone else. I know others may disagree!

Agree. No diet is going to "prevent" b.c. The main risk factor is simply getting older. In Shakespeare's time, the average life expectancy was 35! No one knew about b.c because most women didn't survive beyond menopause, worn out by constant pregnancies from about the age of 15- plus the high risk of dying in childbirth. Diet and exercise are important in themselves, but there is a lot of quackery about.

You are so right, life is short be smart but do not sacrafice the little things. I have lived my life with the “everything in Moderation’’ Attitude. Nothing will ever be perfect ,live and enjoy the best you can tomorrow is not a guaranteed for anyone.

The doctor I see on the side (not main hospital oncologist) told me have two spoon of ground flaxseeds is better than any medicine for breast cancer; his office also told me to stay completely away from meat and dairy. So far I still eat egg and yogurt but I don’t eat meat anymore other than occasionally. Sardine and salmon are every other days.

@resort - eggs are not dairy.

There are books and articles on this but I just want to say that avoiding stress is also important. Every day I have tea and sorbet, a relaxing ritual that involves sugar 🙂 I am nine years out knock on wood.

@windyshores my cancer was apparently stress related

There is a book called Eat to Beat Disease that was referred to me by a 2x bc survivor friend. I’m finding it very interesting. Main emphasis on fruits and veggies, nuts, seafood, etc.

@meg55 oncology dietician suggested plant based with fish and chicken or Mediterranean. And we all know that has the occasional wine too.

@bjohnson511 Sounds Mediterranean to me.. the suggested diet.. I saw these 2 wines mentioned on NIH article. They are the only ones I intend to utilize😊

Cabernet Sauvignon from Tanglewood
One of the red wines [Pinot noir from Hacienda

@prc73 Are your doctors saying one or two drinks a week are okay? Mine started out like that but now they're saying no drinking at all. (and most of the articles are now saying that too.) I hardly ever drank...mostly when we were out for dinner. But now I've sworn it off. I wish they would make up their minds! And they probably don't know for sure. This is so new.
