What's a good anti inflamation drug (not prednisone) for PMR?

Posted by girastancil @girastancil, Aug 20, 2022

I'm currently on celebrex and want to ask if anyone uses something they may have had more success with. I understand celebrex is safer than ibupropen but have heard there are some "stronger" anti-inflam drugs as safe as celebrex. Please respond. thanks much

I have recently started sulfasalazine and am down to 7.5 prednisone. Not a happy camper as am in terrible brain fog and fatigue . I have two more months of the transition and am doing my best to put up with the side effects. As I have been reducing the prednisone I have experienced some PMR pain but nothing compared to the discombobulation caused by both drugs. More to come as time passes.

I've found Actemra won't be prescribed for pmr, you need to use Kevzara (basically the same med) as kevzara is the only biologic approved for pmr in the US. I'm comming up on my 4th shot, and I believe it is starting to help. Suppose to take 3 months for full effect. Hopfully this happens.

My acupuncturist suggested some pills called STOP. It's made by Professional Health Products: http://www.phpltd.com. I ran it past my rheumy and he said it was OK to take it.

@mlz This is from the label: Niacin 500mg, L-Glutamine 1000mg, MSM 1000mg, Quercetin 400 mg, Curcumin 200mg, Bromelain 200mg, Papain 200 mg, Boswella serrata 200mg, Ginger 100mg, N-Aceytl-Cysteine 100mg, Rutin 100 mg, Skullcap 100mg, Serrapeptidase 20mg. Obviously I don't know what some of these terms are but if the Dr. said it's OK that is fine with me!

@ddr I'm now taking both prednisone and methotrezate. (as of today, 10 mg of prednisone and 7 1/2 methotrexate.) My rheumatologist is hoping the methotrexate will help wean me off the prednisone. I also have osteoporosis. I really have to get off the prednisone for all kinds of reasons--having a huge problem with hair loss is one of them. Good luck as you look for what works best for you!

My rheumatologist has me in prednisone (I’m trying the 3.7mg drop from 4 mg) & methotrexate 15 mgs once a week. He’s saying get off pred & metho should take over. I have osteoporosis so getting off prednisone is very important for me. So far so good. Started prednisone March 2025 & metho in May 2025.
I do hear some folks say methotrexate doesn’t help them but I’m hoping I continue to improve! It’s been a not so fun year!!! I’d like to lose the weight & grow some hair!!!
