Minimal pain level/continue or discontinue prednisone
I have been on this journey shorter than most,dx Feb 2025. At this point, my blood work has been looking fairly good. My SEd rate was very minimally elevated the last time I had blood work. I had been down to .5 mg of prednisone. My pain level is manageable, for the most part. I was planning to go down to .25mg of prednisone or simply discontinue. My rheumatologist is suggesting that I stay on .5 mg and repeat bloodwork in 3 to 4 weeks. I was just wondering if others had been in this situation and how they handled it. As always, thank you for your help!

At some point you could go to alternate days with the final taper.
Thank you for the suggestion. I think it's definitely worth a try!

Thank you for that comment. I started pain in Feb 25 & diagnosed by PCP beginning of May, put on 15 mg Prednisone which gave incredible relief quickly. Unfortunately, the side effects were awful, I stopped the prednisone rather quickly & started taking Meloxicam - from PCP. It seems that the pain comes & goes - a roller-coaster. I think it helps me to meditate regularly, seems pain subsides, but I currently rotate Tylenol Arthritis, or Meloxicam as needed. On really bad days, I take prednisone. It’s just so odd to me that it can get so much better, and then surprise me by getting worse. I’m wondering how long it lasts.
It was rather reassuring to hear someone else felt like it was a roller-coaster. (Although, I guess I caused my own by stopping the prednisone)
