Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old
Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

@susanfalcon52 what were your symptoms?
Thanks
@curlyqlinda1 what kind of doctor do you see? My doctor only prescribes estrogen. Not bio identical. Thanks

I will add that I started bhrt at 76. I am now 77. I cannot imagine stopping. I had to go to a functional medicine provider.
I take estradoil 2x a week. Good results

2 ReactionsHas anyone noticed increased vaginal dryness due to oral Progesterone? I had a total hysterectomy a week ago and was having some intense hunger and difficulty sleeping. I increased oral Progesterone from 100mg to 200mg and my vagina feels less comfortable, and didn't feel great on 100mg. I'm already on .100 estradiol patch. I feel like I need to go back to 100mg Progesterone or ask for compounded down to 50mg oral. Thoughts?
@paisley52 , I use estradiol twice weekly vaginally too. I’ve never heard of a requirement to take anything else and I’ve discussed it in detail with my PCP, gynecologist and endocrinologist. I wish they would prescribe something else, but they won’t.
yes! I'm 75 next week. Partial hysterectomy at 34 yo and was on Premarin (estrogen) for years. Then Docs decided I had to get a mammogram EVERY YEAR or Doc would not prescribe Premarin, so I stopped taking it. For about 10 yrs, all was fine. Then when I hit 73, for some reason I felt like I might need some hrt for hair, skin, eyes, heart. So started on estradiol cream 2x week (small dot, transdermal) and progesterone cream (small dot nightly). I buy it online from ParlorGames. I haven't gotten any good advice from Docs in decades, but am very healthy and just HOPING the bit of HRT + daily walks will help me maintain my bone health, et c. I also take magnesium (transdermal) B4 bedtime, to facilitate D3/K2 absorption (sublingual pill daily). It appears that the testing for hormones is too complicated and results are too temporary for Docs to depend on??? IDK. I'm loving this discussion; let's keep it going.

1 Reaction@lauracbaker So you're prescribing HRT to yourself via ParlorGames meds? I'm also 75 and trying to get on bhrt and I'm taking the same supplements as you. I was on Prempro from age 47 to 60 and had mammograms every other year. I'd be very hesitant to prescribe bhrt for myself, however, it is so very difficult to find a doctor who will take you on as a patient especially at 75. I just want a better quality of life for me with my bones, brain and heart health. We all deserve it.
@ramsgirl Yeah I gave up getting good info from M.D. yrs ago! They don't want2 fine tune female hormones; not even thyroid. I have 2 in-laws who areM.D.s; they are not willing2 venture beyond their AMA guidelines. So I do my own research. I interpolate from many sources and then listen2 my body. I may be making mistakes,but that's what I've settled on after so much confusion in the med.community about this subject. I wud not advise others. We're all different. I'm just sharing my experiences. Good luck finding ur best life! (I brisk-walk 1 mile 3x/week)
@ramsgirl
Try functional medicine. That is what I did last year at 76
