Dealing with Post Concussion Symptoms One Year Later. Suggestions?
Hey everyone! I suffered an injury one year ago and I am still having concussion-like symptoms; migraines, slight vertigo, light sensitivity, eye pain, dizziness, lack of coordination, and severe fatigue. I have no clue what is going on.. it’s different than chronic fatigue or anything like that. Does anyone have a good suggestion or idea???
All my scans are clear too!

1 ReactionHi, @maryjaneevelyn - just wanted to check in with you and see how things are going with your daughter who ran into the metal support beam?
Our 15-year-old son suffered multiple concussions last fall from high school football. It has now been nearly a year, and we believe he is suffering from post-concussion syndrome. His primary symptoms include headaches, social anxiety, occasional fogginess, discomfort around loud noises, and tired eyes. Our next step is to see a neurologist. We welcome any comments, feedback, or next steps on how our son can best cope with these symptoms as he begins the new school year.
Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, @swimman1. I moved your post here so you could chat with others who've discussed post-concussion syndrome.
Will he get a chance to visit with the neurologist before starting school for the year? What are his feelings about the post-concussion syndrome and managing his symptoms at school?
His school has already started this week. We are planning the neurologist visit in the next week or so. Today is his 3rd day of the school year and he is showing some depression, as it was a struggle for him to get out of bed. We are trying to be positive for him and have him discuss his day and share his feelings with us at dinner.

1 ReactionHi, I’m new to this group! Been suffering with PCS since taking a bad fall in 2024. It’s my 3rd concussion, and I’m still struggling quite a bit. We are taking a family roadtrip next week, and I’m packing all the things to try to help make the car ride more manageable. Wondering if anyone has any advice or helpful tips? Thanks!
Hi @rachelmc7ey - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Three concussions is a lot. I had one that took me a month to recover from, and that was a lot to deal with. I can't imagine.
When you say you are struggling quite a bit, can you share a bit more about what you are struggling with (e.g., screens, headache, bright lights)?
Hi @lisalucier. Thank you for your response. I’m sorry you had that concussion - I’m sure that was a difficult month!
Yes, I get bad headaches, have noise and light sensitivity, and can feel nauseas. I recently purchased motion sickness glasses for the car, and they seemed to make a difference!
