Reversal of a fundoplication
I had a hernia and the fundoplication done in February as post this my chest is on fire. Going back to see the surgeon who did it on Tuesday. Has anybody had the same experience? If this guy does not have a answer heading for Mayo.
Thanks
Dennis

I had the procedure many years ago. I have not thrown up in all that time. Recently, I have had dry heaves. When your body tries to throw up but nothing but phlegm comes out. ???

1 ReactionYou did not say why you had the procedure? Your esophagus is a fragile thing. You need the best surgeon for that. Not a general surgeon!
You could always ask the surgeon about loosening it up a bit. I expect that there's a reason that your stomach may want to expel its contents. If it doesn't bother you to not vomit then I'd let well enough alone. Watch what you eat so the food doesn't trigger a vomit signal. If you eat something contaminated it would be preferred to hurl it up.
The recovery was uncomfy until the tube was removed. The little bubble of gas that stayed up in the right shoulder was rather painful. It eventually went away.
FWIW it was the only time I ever had an anesthesiologist check on me the next day.

1 ReactionI underwent a revision of my Nissen wrap on October 8th at Michigan Medicine.
My thoracic surgeon Dr Odell found that the previous sutures failed. Instead of wrapping it in the back he wrapped it in the front and did a half wrap instead of a full one.
Two night stay at hospital. I’m at home recovering. Not experiencing to much pain or discomfort. Only time will tell if the revision was successful.

2 ReactionsGee, I wish I could have mine reversed! Had in 2000 and it has always been too tight! Can't burp, throwup, get night time bloat every night since 2000! Sleep about 3 hours and then have to get up and move. Day time the gas moves down, nighttime NO!
Hopefully, your redo is great for you!

2 Reactions@hammock117 - are you still experiencing the dry heaves you talked about? How are you doing otherwise?
@pawsboy9 - wondering how you are feeling these days? Is your chest still feeling on fire?
