Bronchiectasis and staving off recurrent infections
I'm 54, nonsmoker, and was diagnosed with bronchiectasis and mild asthma 3 years ago after a bad run of double pneumonia. The infections are becoming so frequent -- from a few months apart before to a couple of weeks. When I get infected, I go on 14 days of levacquin (750) and prednisone (40 and taper). It seems to work, but I get sick again very quickly. The symptoms are sore throat, major sinus issues, then coughing, bronchitis and fever. Also, my ability to think, work and engage in life is greatly compromised.
Has anyone worked with someone in the immunology field to try and build up their immune system? Is this done? Also, would it help to get vitamin injections? Any other ideas? I am desperate!

Thank you @katemn
Thank you @windwalker!
I'm 65, nonsmoker, diagnosed with bronchiectasis in September. I was tested for immune deficiency with regard to pneumonia and I'm a candidate for gamma globulin infusions. Have you been tested for immune deficiency?

Hello. I am not sure if I have ever been tested for that or not. I recently
had major lab work run on me, but I am not certain what all they checked for
because I have not looked up every single code yet. Do you know the initials
they use for that? Thanks, Terri M.

And a cogent opinion it is Kate.
@katemn hi, although this post seems to be from 2017, can you tell me more about getting to the root cause? What did you find out what the root cause for you? Thank you! Glenda
Lucky I took a bad fall in January and my forehead hit the pavement while carrying 2 heavy bags from a store. 2 girls who worked there came running out and called an ambulance. They did a CT scan on my head and neck. The Doctor told me my head and next wer fine, BUT, he could see a node at the top of my right lung. I then set up a full CT scan of my lungs and that was the only node I had. The Doctor removed a portion of the lung and got all the cancer out but that air leak happened and I need for someone who knows about this to give me some advice......Like another Thoracic Surgeon. That's why I contacted the Mayo Clinic.
