Has anyone treated their osteoporosis without drugs?

Posted by hemigal04 @hemigal04, Sep 20, 2025

Hello all … I am a 68 y/o lady, 5’1 and 115lbs. I have always been petite and of small stature. I recently went to a new physician who ran a battery of tests on me, which all came back great, except for my Dexa scan which came back with a T score of -3.8. The physician immediately wanted to write me a script for Fosamax. After reading about it, I am freaked out. Here’s a bit of background on me. I have never smoked, don’t drink and am fairly active. I still work part-time and love being active. Have any of you tried to combat osteoporosis from a “natural” healing angle? I have NEVER taken any meds, gosh I never even have the need for aspirin, as I don’t experience headaches. Looking for some input from actual people. It’s way too easy for a physician to write a script as I truly believe they are in cahoots with the pharmaceutical industry. My apologies if I have upset anyone. Any information, experience or feedback you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my post.

I don't know which is best, so I take both types alternatively.. Calcium carbonate should be taken with food but calcium citrate can be taken anytime. Be sure your supplements include some Vitamin K which directs calcium to your bones. I take New Chapter which includes K1 and K2, and then Citracal along with Life Extension K2 45mcg.

I completely relate as I am also 68 and in a similar situation. I am not confident about the meds BUT diet, resistance training and an active approach to life have not made any difference. My numbers have continued to decline. I have osteoporosis in my wrists ... I have elected to do the Evenity shots. I agree that medications are not the answer but I want to avoid the consequence of "brittle bones" and remain active. The research on the weighted vests is another approach but inconclusive. Worth a try. Unfortunately, I think we are "victims" of a medical field that just did not pay enough atttention to choices we were making in our 40's and 50's.

@annegirard my osteoporosis is in my hands and wrists also.
Have you had side effects from evenity ?
I also have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) so am very worried about chemicals in the injections 💉.

There are many threads regarding Osteoporosis and I can’t find the one about REMs scans so I can post my results.
Also vibration plates. I bought one but it moves more sideways tilts rapidly.
I returned it and looking for one specifically used to help build bone density.
I can’t remember the product name. Ideally the vibration should move up and down as if trampolining or jumping. Has anyone gotten improved t-scores and quality scores ?

@meri8181

Try searching for Echolight. The challenge then will be which thread to use.

Thanks… I have been on Prolia 10 years and have been told I have to take a “vacation “ from it! I have never had a reaction from it and Reclast was a next possibility but have read a lot of comments about bad side effects. Getting an appointment to an endocrinologist takes months. All this is very frustrating and I know reading on-line stuff can be hard to balance with the actual side effects!!

@makko77 You cannot just take a drug holiday from Prolia like you can with a drug like Reclast or the other bisphosphonates, because of the rebound effect. The problem with Prolia is that once you stop taking it, the osteoclasts (the cells that breakdown bones which had been dormant) will now be super active and start breaking down bones at a higher rate, leading to fractures. I would take your doctor’s advice and go on ReClast to help with the rebound effect.
Here is a video I found from Margaret Martin and Dr. Rubin about Prolia;

Good luck to you!

I have taken Tai Chi classes and that seemed to help with the pain I get in my leg from osteoporosis. I am hesitant to take Reclast since many have reported side effects. I do take over the counter drugs to help with the osteoporosis and visit my doctor for checkups.
