Has anyone else started a red dot with MAI meds?
After a month on meds, suffering from severe constipation and lack of sleep, I have now developed a red pinpoint body rash. (torso, legs and ankles too).
Anyone else experience that?

I have not had a rash from MAC meds but had one from pseudomonas med livofloxicin (sp?). My doctor told me to quit it immediately. Have you told your doctor?
I developed a rash on my neck with a little on my face at about one month after starting my MAC meds.. My neck was quite swollen. I stopped my MAC meds and took a decreasing dose of prednisone starting at 80mg daily. Took 2 weeks to decrease to being off the steroids. I started back on my MAC meds the next Monday. I am careful to use 50 SPF sunscreen now. No further outbreaks. I also take Benadryl 25mg prior to starting my meds each Mon, Wed and Friday
I was on rifampin, azithromycin, and ethambutol for Mac. after a month( i developed pinpoint rash(petechiae). they found my ptt labs were out of whack and took me off rifampin. rash went away and i continued on other two drugs for a little over a year with little problem.

1 Reaction@crepass I’ll let you know btw high fever last nite and dots turning to welts, I really need to speak to my ID. Waiting!
Could be viral or meds.
@roslynroslyn Can you have the ID paged? Or your PCP? Call the office and speak with the nurse. Your rash sounds serious and I would not wait past today to get counsel. In the meantime, if it were I, I would take an allergy pill or 2, like allegra.
My rash was termed vasculitis; doctor was concerned it indicated I could develop anaphylaxis. I'm attaching a photo. Agreed this can be serious.

2 Reactions@yardsend Not sure if others mentioned that, and for your information and thoughts, the rifampin has been in question. Many Bronchiectasis specialists are no longer prescribing it. There is information on the web with the NIH about that. Also above @ crepass indicated information regarding it all, the rifampin.
Hope you get your the right answers from the doctors and cleared up.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your comments and concern. I could have been clearer that my rash seemed to be entirely due to the Levofloxacin and cleared up after I stopped it several months ago. I have continued rifampin without problems (knock on wood). My intent in discussing here was to emphasize that a rash can be a sign of possible serious side-effects.
