I'm new here....

I do have a question for all of you pain folks. I've had some very excruciating leg pain. When I got up my legs feel like they are going to give way. It takes me a minute to start walking. I still have pain when I do. Then at night it gets worse. I go to bed and I can't turn on my side without this horrible pain. The pain is in my lower back and my upper thigh. It's in both legs..I have never had sciatica issues before so I don't know if this it. I would think sciatica would correct itself within days or weeks.. This has been going on for a few months now but has progressively gotten worse. Maybe it is drug related? If it is I don't think it would take this long to effect me. Has anyone else experienced this? I appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks...

Something I did several years ago was to ly on the floor with my legs up on a chair, that gets all the pressure your spine. Also ice your back and leg, I hate ice, much prefer heat but the ice really does do the job. Let me know how you make out. Joy

Thanks Joy for your suggestions. I have a call into the doctor so
I'll see what he says. But with that said I just might have to try what You suggested. Thank you!

Did you find an answer? I have had terrible back pain, and have found a good chiropractor in Jax, but unsure of sharing that type of info in these forums (new here!) I swore I would never go to one, but after trying PT for years, he helped me in weeks. Another thing that has worked and doesn't require much effort as far as leaving home, co-pays, appointments is something called the Miracle Ball Method. You can find it online - good and gentle stretching for back, neck, legs. Hope you have found relief!

As I read your response it reminded me that I swore I would NEVER go to a chiropractor either. I'm going to wait and see what my local MRI shows and see where he suggests me to go. He did mention both PT (which I am not fond of) , a chiropractor, pain management doctor or a neurosurgeon. I did get a call from the doctor yesterday and he did get the results from the radiologist and he said I did have a significant amount of arthritis. I also have some bone spurs. He still wants me to have the MRI to see if there are any bulging discs. Or anything else. He will then send me in the right direction. i hope you continue to feel better....

Hi - I'm new at this as well - You mentioned you have a lot of pain on your lower back and both of your legs. Have you had a MRI on your back? I've had burning pain on both of my legs - it started about a year ago with my left calf with pain especially when I went to bed, having pain down my lower back as well. Then this pain started on both of my legs - right thigh and was going to PT. When I went to PT and it hurt so bad - i decided to go to the doctors to find out exactly what the problem was. The MRI shows I have a bulging disk but that I also have about a 3-4 ml sheath tumor on my nerve root on my spine. I'm in the process of going to see a neurosurgeron - Just a suggestion to go to a doctor who will give you a MRI just to make sure what the actually problem is. I've had several x-rays in the past for my back pain but the x-rays never show anything. I'm to go to Mayo Clinic soon because I have polycystic disease as well and have had a liver resection surgery there about 17 years ago - They saved my life!
Hopefully you feel better soon!

Thanks again for your help. From what you described I am going in the right direction. I do have an MRI scheduled for Monday if my insurance gets their act together. I do not live in Jacksonville but will drive 6 hours to go to Mayo there if I need anything done. I'm already going to Mayo to a neurologist for severe daily headaches. As I said earlier in another post the doctor called me yesterday and told me I have significant arthritis in my lower back. He wants me to have the MRI to see if anything else is going on. Like a bulging disc. He also mentioned to r/o a tumor. I'll keep you posted and let you know what happens. Thanks for responding to my post and letting me know what is going on with you. I hope you feel better really soon. Tallygirl

@pkindron,

You mentioned you were seeing the neurosurgeon on Monday, March 6th. Did you make your appointment? Would you mind telling the rest of the members what you found out?

Long Story short I did not have my MRI done last night due to insurance issues. I am scheduled for an MRI on my brain on next Monday because of my headaches. When they called to get my MRI approved they wouldn't because I already had an MRI scheduled. Even though the MRI's are on different parts of my body. They both have the same code so that is the problem. I'm not sure what I want to do about getting the MRI done here. It is now scheduled for Friday Morning at 6:30am. Can you believe that? That is the only time they had. So I haven't heard from Mayo to see if they cancelled my MRI there. I think I'd rather just go to Mayo and have that one done and then come home and have the MRI on my back here. I may take care of this tomorrow. I hate insurance companies!
