2025 NTM and Bronchiectasis Patient Family Conference You Tube.
I posted that as soon as I got the video for the 2025 NJH NTM BE Conference that I would post. Sorry, having difficulty posting, but want to let all interested it is now up on You Tube. Just Google: 2025 NTM and Bronchiectasis Patient Family Conference and it should come up. Please note: The individual lecturers can be clicked on to the right.
Dr. Jennife Honda went over disinfection/sterilization techniques for MAC and MAB. I highly recommend listening to this segment of NTM in the environment. Her department at UT-Tyler tested antibacterial success in soaking in Dawn (which didn't kill any MAB), microwaveable bags, and bottle sterilizers, along with environmental NTM info. Also, she mentioned that they will be setting up an environmental NTM testing lab in order to create a data base, so that we can send in samples from our homes to the lab and get home specific info-yay!

Thanks for sharing that! I need to listen to that portion again; I thought she said a decrease in NTM. That would definitely solve my dilemma, since the aerobika could probably go in those. I damaged my Aerobika a few weeks ago in the Medela micro steam bag. I did go on Amazon, just not sure which brand. I'm just tired of boiling.
The Bololo is a top brand used by many on this site. It can be purchased online. Rinsed neb cups and the Aerobika can go in to be sterized and dried. When I was looking around, not all bottle sterizers have the drying function so if you do go with a different brand I was suggest you get one which also dries as you can leave your equipment in it until ready to use. I believe Monohan which makes the Pari cups and Aerobika list a bottle sanitizer as a cleaning/sterilizing method so safe to use without warping like the microwave issue you had.
I have a Wabi Baby bottle sterilizer and put my aerobika and aeroclipse neb cup in it and have had no problems at all. For me it is much easier than boiling. You do have to descale it once every 1-2 weeks, but that is not a big deal.
In addition, I put my toothbrushes in it as well. You can put anything in it that you want to be sure is really clean.

1 ReactionThanks so much!!! I will look at the Bololo today. Was on Amazon a while back and just couldn't make up my mind.
Thank you!!!! I will look at that as well. Yes, I'm really tired of boiling.
No, no exhaust fan in the laundry room but.....now that you bring that up I may have one put in. Thanks for the thought.
I wouldn't install one if you don't have one. It's a dirty job to install and I hate portable fans because they blow dust around. It's easier to install one of those Raintree UF Under sink filters and you can use it for washing fruits and vegetables and drinking. I listened to Dr Honda's video again and she distinctly said the Baby bottle sterilizers "reduced" NTMs and the 5% vinegar and 70% ETOH killed the NTM. That said, I didn't see anything growing on those petri dishes. MAB is a lot harder to kill, so I might stick with the 5% white vinegar for 30 minutes.

1 ReactionI am newly diagnosed and purchased a baby Brezza sterilizer. After using my Aerobika devise I take it apart and place it right in the sterilizer that sterilized and drys it. Are you confirming that this is all I need to do? I live in Canada so we don’t nebulizer so I don’t have that to clean.
Clean before sterilizing with a soak in hot tap water with Dawn dishing washing detergent is what I do. Cleaning and sterilizing are 2 different things. Some people soak their equipment in vinegar once a month or more to remove mineral scale buildup.

3 ReactionsI am thinking of getting a Bololo for the first time. Does everyone use distilled water in their sterilizers? Do you still boil once a week?
