Spiriva question

Posted by hobbity @hobbity, Sep 15 9:00pm

Hi lovely people ,
I have just started on spiriva after being officially diagnosed 3 months ago with copd . I'm 69 and a life long smoker so I'm sure that I've had it for years now . Trying to quit smoking now, failing mostly tho . My question is , I'm on day 8 of the spiriva and I think I'm experiencing side effects . I've started having some stomach discomfort , sore stomach and more coughing with a lot of phlegm . Anyone have any issues with Spiriva ? My doctor didn't give me a stage of my copd .

It's been my opinion that a little nausea will occur. The exceberation is the outcome of Spiriva. Removing that from your lungs is a good thing. Remember to rinse with water or you might get thrush. Good luck.

If spiriva is not working for you, there are others… I’ve watched my husband use many many different types of COPD medicines. Remember, everyone is different… Based on what I’ve read from other patients, it seems that each COPD patient responds differently to a different medication. Give it a week if you’re still nauseous or having issues tell your doctor and you can try something else… I’m pretty sure my husband was on Spiva at one point and he lost his voice.

Please speak with your MD. I successfully took spiriva for decades and didn’t have the side effect you complain of, but we are all different. There are many different treatments and you have to work with your doc to find the ones that help the most with fewest side effects.

Hopefully, the Spiva will give you relief… And sometimes it works and you don’t realize it’s working. I am not sure of what you’re expectations are, but if you’re anything like my husband, you expected to feel something different within a week…this does not happen, speaking with your pulmonologist, and having a relationship with that person is vital to your success. Don’t give up… Just do your research and talk to your doctor

Has anyone used or is using Breyna? Spriva not formulated on my insurance . Did Trelegy for 1 month but was too expensive. Now trying Incruse it's so-so. On medicare so will be looking into other part D's to see who covers what for next year.

HI,
Spiriva formulation has been sold. It is now sold as a generic name
Tiotropium Bromide.
Manufactured by
Lupin Pharmaceutical
Baltimore MD.
I had to ask my Pharmacist to call my Dr.
Hope this helps.
Your doctor might try prescribing this.

Hi bobarb, I don't have e a pulmonologist yet , I just spoke to my gp the one time about this copd diagnosis and she told me if I felt breathless to come and get a faily inhaler . So after my vacation where I experienced breathlessness while walking around a farm I told her and she gave me this spiriva . Ya maybe I'm.not sure what I expected. Miracle lol ? It does make me feel less breathless , just a lot of phlegm coughing and throat clearing . My gp isn't seeming to be making much of a big deal about it , just told me if I have a lot of shortness of breath to go to the ER .

While your primary physician may be doing what’s best for you right now… You need a baseline so you need to see a pulmonologist so you know exactly where you’re at. The secret to success with COPD is controlling your infections and you need to be told how to do so.
