About Laser Photocoagulation treatment
Hi all,
My left eye has been diagnosed as MD (Macular Degeneration) suffering slightly blurry vision, but no other symptoms found. Yesterday I have had Laser Photocoagulation treatment which took about 45 min. After treatment no vision improvement is found. The blurry vision on my left eye is still existing.
Please advise how long shall it take for the improvement of the blurry vision on my left eye?
Thanks
Best Regards

Hi sjs1,
My doctor taking charge of my case ordered Laser Coagulation, Eylea Injection, Altrasonic test at the same time, about 5 months ago, when she diagnosed my MD case

Your macular timeline -
depending on which post I read, the order looks different:
• Your Post A: “I had laser yesterday.”
• Post B: “I had 2 eye injections, the second in August.”
• Post C: “At the diagnosis five months ago my doctor did laser + injection + (you mean ultrasonic) altrasonic ".
Macular degeneration is also typically bilateral, if you have the most serious wet type in one eye which can cause blindness if not promptly treated to stop
progression , then, other eye will not be "perfect".
Okay,
It’s easy to lose track of all the procedures. At your Sept 12 visit, you might ask your doctor to write down the exact plan — how many injections, whether the laser is still part of treatment, and how your other eye will be monitored. Having it in writing will make it much easier to follow and share. I suspect the laser was used in crisis mode to quickly seal off the blood vessels because the eye injections were too slow acting. Typically just the newer gold standard eye injections are used, not the older laser treatment which has more side effects. Your eyes were so normal and working so well up to this age that it has been a shock to learn this is happening without your knowing it. I learned I had macular degeneration at age 65 by taking a regular eye exam for glasses and then being referred to a doctor who diagnosed the condition and it has taken ten years before my eyes saw blurry. I have not taken the injections.
Hope your worse eye will stabilize, maybe some of the leaking caused blurriness too. On top of that - Hope someone who is or has taken the injections can respond reporting that they have improved vision.
I looked it up :
I wonder if what you meant by “Altrasonic” was actually an ultrasound test. Eye doctors often use ultrasound imaging (sometimes called a B-scan) to look inside the eye and get more detail about what’s going on. It’s a diagnostic test, not a treatment like injections or laser.
That makes sense if your doctor ordered it at the same time — the injections and laser are the active treatments, while the ultrasound helps them see the structure of the eye more clearly.
Hi sjs1,
My care doctor gave order for 3 tests:-
1. Laser Photocoagulation
2. Eylea injection
3. Ultrasound Macular occlusion (sorry for my typing mistake)
The time for the tests are not under her control. It was fixed by the hospital administration. The arrangement of tests was as follows:
1. Eylea injection (1st injection)
2. Ultrasound Macular occlusion
3. Eylea injection (2nd injection)
4. Laser Photocoagulation
3rd Eylea injection will be arranged later.
I'll talk to my doctor on my next visit.
Regards
CRAO stands for Central Retinal Artery Occlusion and it's different from wet AMD:
What it is: A blockage of the central retinal artery. It’s sometimes called an “eye stroke. It causes sudden vision loss. All wet and dry macular degeneration patients are given an office OCT test scan each office visit. It's the gold standard test to measure the health of the retina. The scans are saved and compared to see the progress of an injection or treatment or progression. Ultrasound (B-scan ultrasonography) that you were given is a diagnostic test, not a wet AMD treatment. It’s mostly used when: The retina can’t be seen clearly (for example, because of a cataract or blood The doctor wants to check for retinal detachment, tumors, or unusual causes of swelling. Sometimes, to get a different view of structures like veins/arteries if the OCT scans aren’t giving enough information .Sometimes like in my case my eye scan was the same as the time before but I had more real cloudiness in my actual vision this time that the scan did not catch. I've never had an eye ultrasound. It's good that they gave you this ultrasound test. That's why the Mayo Clinic is effective in treating diseases because they do all the tests necessary to make a differential diagnosis.
What I have performed was "Macular vein occlusion" test with Ultrasonic. It is a test NOT a treatment. Fortunately nothing wrong was found.
Macular vein occlusion refers to a blocked retinal blood vessel that affects the macula, leading to fluid leakage, swelling (macular edema), bleeding, and vision loss. It is a form of Retinal Vein Occlusion.
I'm trying to find out whether there are natural remedies of AMD with foods. Actually there are plenty of technical information of AMD on Internet. But I must be careful, because I have NOT been trained on this profession, to avoid misunderstand their contents.
At 86, for women, it’s about protecting strength, bones, not following rigid “eye diets.” A Mediterranean diet with protein, and hydration, light activity, and AREDS ( if one good eye is dry) is a good plan.
satimis- Search for the eye drops you took on the fda website. There have warnings about OTC eye drops.
Hi@sjs1,
Whether make search on following website ?
FDA U.S. FOOD & DRUG
https://www.fda.gov/drugs
I have made a search on the eye drops which I suspect causing the vision problem on my left-eye
Search made on : name of the eye drops, manufacturer and its country of origin (Japan)
But no search result found.
I'm very cautious on eye drops. I have been using another eye drop of this manufacturer for >10 year without problem, twice per day. It keeps my eyes wet and comfortable.
Much luck to you on your health journeys, we all are in it together!
