Same with me on the mask, jokingly i mention to my wife maybe i should get a hat or t-shirt that says heart transplant maybe people will sit next to me again.

I say the same thing all the time especially to my son and daughter as they are worried about making me sick if they give me a hug or a kiss or just sit by me I keep telling them it's okay to give a hug a and kiss and to sit by me they are slowly listening to me that it's okay but I do understand as they went through everything from me being told that I had to have the transplant to the waiting for one and then the transplant itself which I think was the hardest for them because they were miles away from me in Wisconsin while I was in Rochester
MN. So they still worry that somthing is going to happen to me all the time

@glinda My son was the same, he's more of a worrier than my daughter, or maybe she just holds it in more.

I told them both to not bother coming home when I had the transplant, that I would be sleeping a lot and if they were here I wouldn't want to sleep. They did oblige. I know if not for that they would have been here. They came home a number of times when I was in the hospital sick before my transplant, he came all the way from CA to Boston.

A funny little addition. He went on his first date with the woman who became his wife in August, two days after my transplant. She told me that on their first date all he did was talk about me and she was afraid he might be a mamma's boy!

I don't think it would have been so hard on bothy kids if they weren't handicapped as they both are mildly austicstic
and are learning disabled besides having a genetics disorder that is a sibling thing and having to soles depend on mom sometimes even though they were adults they spent most of their lives with just mom being there and taking care of them as their father was .a mommas baby he was couldn't do anything without his mommas and three sisters ok so they depended on mom all the time but they are getting better with not worrying about mom they now know that mom is going nowhere anytime soon so my son is on his own with aids twice a week to help him and me calling him 4times a day for his meds IF he forgets to call me first and my daughter lives only a quarter of a block from where I live in an adult family home as he will never be able to live on her own like her brother can but I am in contact with my daughter and see her all the time and my son lives downtown from me so I see him all the time to so for me it's all good as my children are the most important part of my life they are the only reason I had the heart transplant besides my mom to but no longer have my mom so it's just me and my kids

Good morning everyone!
Recently our Transplant Discussion Group has been talking about food safety - what to eat, what not to eat, how to prepare, etc. We decided it might be a great topic for a blog post, so we asked one of our transplant dietitian staff to give us some advice on food safety for our patients. Read more on the blog today about food safety ideas that are good for all of us and our families. Are there things your doctors told you that don't fit with the general guidelines? Everyone is different so we should all follow the advice from our own physicians, even though it might be a bit different from what other patients are doing.

I have a question about catching a cold post transplant. I have a very sore throat, am coughing that is causing chest pains. This is the first illness I've had in the past 3 years. I'm not sure if it is a problem that warrants a doctor's visit? I don't have a fever (so far) but I feel drained and sore. I am drinking hot lemon and honey.

@gaylea1, Why don’t you call your coordinator for his/her thoughts? With immunosuppression, you want to be proactive.

@gaylea Did you get a flu shot and this might be a side effect? If I was you, a call to your transplant people is in order. Better to be safe than sorry.
