Vaccinations: what are your plans for fall and winter?
A note- this message is intended for folks who are interested in vaccines to cope with their reduced immunity post transplant. If you do not think vaccines are important, please be respectful.
Last weekend I obtained my Covid vaccine booster and scheduled a flu vaccine for early October. I’m told that the Covid vaccine I received is the same one (for the same strain) that I’ve already received twice last year. When I made an appointment for a flu shot in early October I was told that there were currently no plans for the federal government to research and send to the public an updated flu vaccine as has been the case for decades.
Last summer I experienced a terrible Covid and had to be hospitalized for a while, it was scary, not to be repeated if possible.
What are you doing to manage your suppressed immune system this fall/winter?

I was 62 when I had mine done you must have been way younger than me also I graduated with Robert Malone in high school who now works for RFK as an expert and just see what he has to say about some of them anything listed as experimental I’m definitely not talking it but that’s just me to each his own I don’t push anything on anybody I know my body very well
Mayo JAX advised they do not currently have the COVID vaccine. Should have it in mid September 25.
I was 16 when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune liver disease. I was 35 when I had my transplant.
I plan to get the updated Covid vaccine as soon as it is available in my area. My pharmacist says that she has been notified that it will be sent to the pharmacy. But she does not know when.
Hi. I now take 3 mg per day, down from a very high dose in 2016 when I rejected. They raised my drug level goal to 8-10 not 3-5 for 3 years. And ur level is...
Good morning from Canada, my fall plan is flu and covid vaccines. Wearing my mask, washing my hands and using hand sanitizer when necessary.
Good Morning! I normally do a flu vaccine in October. I have discontinued CoVID vaccines, as I have had it several times with no symptoms but loss of taste. I am a teacher, 5 yrs post-transplant, and so wash my hands ALOT, stay 5 feet from people when talking, avoid large crowds in the winter when possible, and take Vitamin C everyday. I have stayed healthy, for the most part, with just a few viral illnesses and one upper-respiratory infection in the past 5 years.
@katebw I am sorry to hear you had such a frightening covid experience last year, and grateful that you are on the other side of it. Blessings to you and I hope you have a healthy winter!
The other day I tried for a Covid vaccine. No go. Nobody has any supply. Getting vaccinated is very important to me! So, I got my flu shot instead. At least I hope to stay ahead of that. A day of high temp and malaise, hopefully back on my regular track today.

I have a question I am pre transplant (kidney) just got on UNOS so at the very beginning. Wondering with dialysis should I still get flu and Covid as I have in years past?
Hi, @deeters, I want to extend my welcome to Connect, and to let you know that I am thrilled to hear that you have completed all of the preliminary tests and are now qualified to receive a kidney transplant! I remember that feeling - of relief, fear, and excitement that I experienced 16 years ago when I, too, was eligible to be placed on the UNOS list.
Being pre transplant and post transplant, puts you in a very special medical situation. Your transplant team is going to be your guide and in charge of all medications, or any changes in your condition. Please ask your transplant team whether it is safe for you to get the flu shot now and/or which flu dose you should get.
If you have not yet been assigned a nurse, you can contact the transplant dept and ask them to put you in contact with someone on the kidney transplant team. From now until forever, always check with your transplant team, first.
Is your dialysis clinic and transplant center in communication with each other? What is next for you with the kidney transplant team?
