Stem Cell Therapy for Rotator Cuff Tears or Arthritis
I understand that the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Department offers stem cell therapy for patients with rotator cuff tears. Where can I learn more about this procedure and decide if I am possibly a candidate for such a procedure? I am 74 years old and have been diagnosed with a total rotator cuff tear. Thank you.

I had a PRP Injection yesterday... painful injection but no pain after. I will keep you posted on my progress and results.. keeping my arm quiet for 72 hours.
Has anyone tried or had success with Regenerative Medicine. I am interested in Stem Cell Injection for my Hip. It is not covered by insurance and quite pricey $5,000+. I had P RP Injection for slight tear in rotator cuff and after a month it has improved but not perfect. This Injection was $500 not covered by insurance either. I am hearing more and more on Regenerstive Medicine and hoping it is the way of the future for pain and avoiding or delaying surgery. Thank you.
Hello @pat3316,
I apologize, I moved your discussion to the wrong current discussion. I meant to merge it with a conversation taking place on stem cell treatments for hips. You can look at that conversation here, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/stem-cell-therapy-for-hip/. I will submit to have your discussion post merged with the correct discussion.
Hello Peter. What was your final decision? Did you have surgery or the stem cell therapy? I also have a completely torn rotator cuff. My Essentia Health surgeon in Duluth, MN offered a new option called Superior Capsular Reconstruction. Google it and see what you think, then please reply if you would. Nancy
I am being told my only solution for my damaged shoulder is reverse shoulder replacement. This is very invasive and I would be interested in stem cell as an option first. Does Mayo Clinic provide stem cell therapy for both torn rotator cuff and the cartilage between the bones? If so does anyone have experience with this treatment for the shoulder?
Do you know of any free stem cell therapy for shower, I have partial tear
i did stem cells for knee and back.
Hello @littlebug and @shoulder, welcome to Connect. @littlebug, I moved your discussion and combined it with an existing discussion titled, "Stem cell therapy for rotator cuff tears." I did this so all of the members discussing this topic would see your message and so that you could both have a chance to read through some of their replies. I also invite you to check out the following discussion on reverse shoulder replacements, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/reverse-shoulder-replacement/. I have also share information in this discussion about the regenerative medicine consult service at Mayo Clinic that would be better equipped to ask specifically about stem cell treatments for shoulder injuries. You can find that post here, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/94770/.
@littlebug and @shoulder, what sort of mobility and use do you have with your shoulders currently? Is there bone damage?
I would advise people with questions on stem cells to check with Mayo Clinic and Regenexx. I use regenexx because a local dr uses their techniques. They have a great web site and you can talk to someone for info.
I am looking for people who have had stem cell therapy on a rotator cuff injury and there results.
