Stem Cell Therapy for Rotator Cuff Tears or Arthritis

Posted by peterauen @peterauen, Feb 15, 2017

I understand that the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Department offers stem cell therapy for patients with rotator cuff tears. Where can I learn more about this procedure and decide if I am possibly a candidate for such a procedure? I am 74 years old and have been diagnosed with a total rotator cuff tear. Thank you.

I have had both prp and stem cell therapy for 2 different knees and used 2 different dr.’s. Had good results with prp. No results at all with stem cell therapy probably due to using the wrong dr.
Not sure if either of these are good for torn rotator cuff. Good luck to you.

Hello @james611, welcome to Connect. You may notice I moved your discussion and combined it with an existing discussion titled "Stem cell therapy for rotator cuff tears and arthritis." I did this so you could read through all of the posts members have shared about their experience with your situation. @james611, is your spouse's tear a partial or full? How are they doing with pain and mobility?

Spouse has a complete tear of the supraspinatus with two centimeters of retraction. Been to several Dr.’s in the area, getting mixed advice, not interested in getting surgery. She is 69 yrs. old plays lots of tennis, and golf. I guess my question is, if no surgery, can PRP, and poss. Stem cell relieve pain enough to return to former activity level? Lastly, if surgery were to be done, are better results possible if PRP & Stem cell treatments are part of the treatment?

I've had surgery on left shoulder. Now the orthopedic surgeon said my right shoulder is worse. Bone on bone. He has recommended a complete shoulder replacement. I'm getting a second opinion Wednesday. I know of someone else who had stem cell. Trying to keep my options open. I do not really want to have complete replacement.

I believe Mayo is on the front end of Stem Cell Therapy…you may want to read up on the subject in Life Force, a New York Times Bestseller, authored by Tony Robbins and doctors Peter Diamondis, MD & Robert Hariri, MD, PHD…lots of information here on historical and current developments. Pretty exciting…that which most of us might have at one time considered “science fiction” is now here today!
Tony had a torn Rotator Cuff from a snowboarding accident along with severe spinal stenosis…had stem cell therapy and avoided surgery. Good luck!

I have had the Total Reverse procedure in 2020...not fun! If you can avoid it, my suggestion is do so. Stem Cell Therapy is here today. Check it out! Read Life Force...it will enlighten you with some amazing info!
Good Luck!
