Kidney transplant - process for being a living donor

I hope you don't mind, but I moved your message to the Transplants so that you can meet both donors and recipients, and get answers to your questions.

I'm tagging @uneeq1 and @gregorytremblay who have been through the living donor experience. Hopefully they can answer some questions. I'd also like to introduce you to @rosemarya @coastalgirl and @scottb32, three kidney transplant recipients.

Lovelly, when do you find out if you are a match?

( I am not at my regular computer, so please forgive me because I have to give you the long route to this information ) Here goes: At top of this page click on DISCUSS.
Then click on PAGES.
Next scroll to TRANSPLANTS.
You will come to a 4 Tabs -Newsfeed -Recipient Toolkit -Donor Toolkit -Resources. Make your selection.

@lovelly2017, I hope that you were able to find some helpful information on the Transplant Page Donor Toolkit.

I received my transplant almost 8 years ago. And while I do not share your (and your son's) same situation, I do admit to having experienced the fear and anxiety of waiting, the wondering, and hoping and doubting, and even crying.
Another thing that I have learned is that the entire transplant process, recipient/donor, is very thorough. And you can be comforted knowing your health and your son's health are the topmost priority.
I am thinking of you.
Do you know how long until you get the results?

The donor coordinator say it takes about two wks. Idk i have miased feelings. I really want to do this for my son but in the same token iam afraid that if iam a match the next processs seem so involved with all testing

Thank you. They said two weeks but i got a call today from the donor coord. I did the bloodwork last friday so they said they were not sure if they could process it was soppose to do it mon-wed. But iam worried cause iam not why she is calling so early.

@lovelly2017, That is a confusing message. I can understand why it worries you. Sometimes these things follow a time schedule of their own, so maybe it is okay. Do you have a phone number where you can speak to the donor coordinator about your concern?
Were you able to find the Living Donor information that I told you about? I want you to read it because I think you will find it helpful. If you need help getting to it, let me know.

Yes i was able to find the page thank you! I will contact my donor coord tom am. I just get real nerveous at times! Not sure why i mean i know this is in Gods hands cause I have no control on my own! But iam still just an imperfect human I try not 2 let my thoughts get the best of me !

@lovelly2017, I believe that it is okay to be nervous, especially when dealing with a serious issue and decision like this one is. It is natural to want to be in control - of everything - in our lives. The unknowing is indeed difficult to accept. I like your honest attitude about your feelings. And I admire your confidence in knowing where to place your trust!

Hi @lovelly2017 - I recently donated a kidney to one of my friends. It's normal to feel nervous and scared. Use the resources available at your hospital to discuss your concerns. The process took us almost a year, she was on dialysis prior to the procedure. I had the surgery three weeks ago and am still in the recovery stages. The feeling I get from helping her live live greatly outweighs my discomfort. I hope you are a match for your son! Keep us updated 🙂
