Help Getting Off of Klonopin

Posted by mcoleman1971 @mcoleman1971, Aug 20 9:35pm

I have been on Klonopin for 25 years at 2mg per day and want to get off of this horrible medication. My GP here doesn't know how to help me and since I live in a small town we don't have any therapists that would be able to help me as well. I do not wish to go to a rehab center and need support through what I am going to be going through over the next year.

It’s where you dissolve your dose in 300 ml of water. You have to shake it continually because these drugs are not water soluble. So it actually becomes a suspension and after you shake it you have to quickly remove however many millileters for that day and then drink the rest quickly. Every day you remove one more ml. Of water. So, day 1, 1ml, Day 2, 2ml and so on. There are some good videos on YouTube on how to do it. Just search for Benzodiazepine Water Tapers on YouTube. It is time consuming and tedious but it made, for me, the withdrawal perfectly painless.

Thank you!!! I will check the videos out.

I would like more as to why you think it is a horrible medication. I do know that It will take a long time and must be tapered slowly. A replacement med while you are tapering can also help. Good luck

Because everything in my life is centered around it right down to certain meds that I needed in the hospital after surgery and I keep trying to taper and I can't, I have been on it way too long. I am soo frustrated and want this drug out of my life.

@sears, what do you mean by the liquid? Can you describe it, is it prescribed and at very low doses, like 1/4 mg? I am a long way away from that point, now at 5mg per day but wonder how I would go below 3mg or 2mg a day at this 10% or even a 5% drop at that point. Any information or links would be greatly appreciated. Am in the USA here.

All of the Benzos come in liquid form that can be prescribed by your doctor and gotten at any pharmacy. It comes in a bottle with a dropper. I used the liquid (Valium) at the end of my taper. I used it to pull up 1/2 mg. and lower. I used the pills and broke them in half until I got to that point. Valium comes in 2 mg. tablets so they were easy to break up.
Most doctors prefer you switch over to Valium for tapering due to its long half life. Stays in your system longer, no inter dose withdrawal, etc. If you’d like more info please message me anytime. Others may not be interested and I don’t want to take over this thread. I’m sorry but don’t have any links to share. I promise it’s very simple. There’s no way I could have done anything complicated at that point in my life. 25 years is way, way too long to take any benzo. I was horribly addicted.
