Help Getting Off of Klonopin

Posted by mcoleman1971 @mcoleman1971, Aug 20, 2025

I have been on Klonopin for 25 years at 2mg per day and want to get off of this horrible medication. My GP here doesn't know how to help me and since I live in a small town we don't have any therapists that would be able to help me as well. I do not wish to go to a rehab center and need support through what I am going to be going through over the next year.

It should say at the top of my discussion Klonopin? It’s that not showing?

I didn't know that as well about the antidepressants. I guess not one size fits all with withdrawal. I was on an antidepressant and all I know is that completely altered my outgoing personality to a zombie like state. Thank goodness I stopped taking that years ago.

I would like more as to why you think it is a horrible medication. I do know that It will take a long time and must be tapered slowly. A replacement med while you are tapering can also help. Good luck

Why are none of you doing a water taper? I did and it was painless.

I am coming off of Klonopin also I was on 0.5 twice a day. Now down to once a day. But I also take other anxiety meds. Must say I hate them all. It took a month to come off 0.5 I did half for two weeks then another have for a week then the last half for a week. It was a little rough. But now I am waiting a month or so before I start the other one. I hope this helps a little. I wish you the best of luck.

What is a water taper?

It’s where you dissolve your dose in 300 ml of water. You have to shake it continually because these drugs are not water soluble. So it actually becomes a suspension and after you shake it you have to quickly remove however many millileters for that day and then drink the rest quickly. Every day you remove one more ml. Of water. So, day 1, 1ml, Day 2, 2ml and so on. There are some good videos on YouTube on how to do it. Just search for Benzodiazepine Water Tapers on YouTube. It is time consuming and tedious but it made, for me, the withdrawal perfectly painless.

You can also get the liquid
form of your benzo at any pharmacy. It’s inexpensive and you can pull up tiny amounts with the dropper. This is what I used to taper. Very simple.
