Paxil withdrawal, having night sweats and can't relax. You?
After slowly withdrawing from Paxil, I am having night sweats. Has that been a problem for anyone else? I also have difficulty just relaxing.

I was taking paxil years ago and stopped involuntarily after my incarceration. I had been taking it for two years and abruptly was taken off and I had severe side effects such as dizziness and sand paper sounds in my head. It was horrible but I never had any sweats that I can remember but I was very depressed, tired and zombie like. When I wasn’t, I felt anxious like you mentioned. I’m sure that everyone is probably going to experience different issues with this and depending on what’s being treated and how it affects you is going to determine the opposite effect when you come off it.
If you don’t mind me asking, why do you want to come off it?

1 Reactionmedication side effect affecting general health..not a choice
I am trying to get off of Paxil which I've been taking many years. Had been taking 30 mg but now am down to 10 mg a day which I take in the morning. I've read that Paxil has a short half life which makes it harder to stop. Every morning when I wake up I'm a little shaky & tense with negative feelings. Is there a natural supplement I could take in the middle of the night so I don't feel this way every morning? I've read a little about SAMe that may help. Any help would be appreciated.
I think the doctor should give you a medication that will help with your withdrawal symptoms, some people are able to withstand the symptoms of withdrawal but for some of us we need some extra help. I have taken Paxil for a short period, about two years and I withdrew from them I was also taking Ativan so it helped me to cope with the symptoms, perhaps something else that is not habit forming.
Welcome to the group,
Would like to help. Haven't had that one so can't help. Just saying this is
a good place to ask questions. Good luck finding an alternative.

2 Reactions@carolbornstjames Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I'm glad you are here to read about what other members have experienced.
Like @randallshields56, I don't have any history with Paxil. When we are moving off one medication it certainly can be a challenge! Can your Dr help you with an interim plan?
Have you thought about doing something to help those negative feelings, like meditation, or drawing out your thoughts, or journaling? For me, "getting out of my head, out of my own way" has often helped. It is an alternative to adding yet another pill to my regimen. Do you think you could give this a try?
