Reversal of a fundoplication

I had a hernia and the fundoplication done in February as post this my chest is on fire. Going back to see the surgeon who did it on Tuesday. Has anybody had the same experience? If this guy does not have a answer heading for Mayo.

I’ve been meaning to post this it but I’ve had bit of a full plate lately…After I had my revision from 360 to a 270 at Johns Hopkins I still had MANY NEW (new as in the original survey) GI symptoms. Horrible constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, etc. It got to the point where my stomach was distended and continued to distend at the rate as in a pregnancy. There were several times where I was taken to the ER by my parents to have me assessed bc I was I so much pain and the doctors kept giving me pregnancy tests bc of my distended and hard stomach. I was not pregnant & the doctors at JHU didn’t have any answered. The head of GI at the time told me to “do abdominal exercises” which was to be frank hard to hear since I was constantly in pain,

I finally made an appointment at the Mayo Clinic in MN and it was long haul (both in the sense of the time I spent there and going back and forth to DC ) but u wish I had done it sooner. The surgeon who did my Nissen damaged my vagus nerve along the things (and organs) and I needed a total colectomy (with an ielostomy bit that was later reversed)s, if any of you are wondering if you should make an appt at any of the clinics I HIGHLY recommend you doA they saved my physical body and my sanity bc I knew that I wasn’t imaging the symptoms I had when JHU couldn’t figure out what was wrong

I just had my appointment with a thoracic surgeon at Michigan Medicine. Based on a esophagram (barium swallow. 🤢) I had last week. He recommended I have a EGD and dilation for a look see. Before even considering anything more invasive.

Went back to my surgeon at froedtert and was told it can't be reversed

I’m needing the Nissen fundiplication surgery and have put it off I like to belch ( just kidding) I’ve heard horror stories not being able to belch or vomit what do you do to relieve the pressure ? How long before you can eat meat and taters ? Drink carbonated drinks? I only drink maybe a can of Dr Pepper a week

I had Nissen 8 years ago. Belching is not a problem, but I cannot vomit, had one episode with wretching and that was very painful. It just stopped after a while. I still have difficulty with carbonated drinks and avoid them, makes me feel like choking. Staying on full liquid diet for at least 2-3 weeks after surgery is a must, with meat you better wait a month before you start slowly. According to my gastroenterologist the surgery was a success, but I definitely don't feel the same as before. I would only recommend it, if you really need it and you are out of other options.

It seems as with all surgeries fix one thing and it effects something else

Had my EGD with dilation yesterday. Everything went well.

Only noteworthy item was the physician documented and I quote “loose/partially unwrapped fundiplication “. I’m assuming that I’ll have to wait for my gastrointestinal PA to review the results and explain what that means.

When I had mine the doc warned to have someone well-experience. Some make it so tight that you can't belch or vomit. I can do both with some effort. Fortunately I have had VERY FEW times when I needed to vomit. Be sure to eat and drink SLOWLY at first.

I initially told my care team I thought my fundiplication may be too tight.

Since I had my fundiplication I have never been able to vomit. Although there are many occasions where it feels like I have to vomit. As far as burping goes it’s rare and I find it surprising when it happens. It does make me feel better when I burp.

One other thing. I do occasionally have what I call partial hick ups.
