I have shingles and am astounded at how painful it is. Anyone else?

I’ve had shingles for two and a half weeks. The spots/blisters/scabs are bad enough but the stomach discomfort is next level. My stomach is swollen on the left side and extremely tender to the touch. I would love to know if this is a common experience and a short-lived condition?

I had Shingles in my groin and it was uncomfortable but I didn’t suffer severe pain. I have never been vaccinated. I’m 70 now and I think I was 66 when I got it.
My PCP wanted to see me. He verified for my health chart. I would call about your stomach issue to be sure this is part of shingles. They might want to check you out. Best of luck.

I’m going to see my doctor tomorrow and will check with him that my symptoms are normal. Thanks for your concern.

Yes. I moved house recently and think that, because of my age, the move caused stress? I have a largish area on my stomach that feels numb to the touch (as though I’ve had a dental injection into my stomach wall). The scabs are all coming off now and the pain hasn’t been too bad today. It wakes me at night though, so I do take the pills prescribed by my doctor to get me through the night.

I was two days short of getting my Shingles shot. I had gotten the flu and the Pneumonia shot. Then I had gotten a rash in my eye and on my face. Honestly, my husband and I didn't know what it was. He took me to the ER 3 times, and we sat for 10 hours. Finally, on the 3rd visit someone figured out what it was. I ended up in the hospital because the infection when into my brain through my eye and I did not even know who I was (encephalitis) I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so I make sure I get certain vaccines. Now I have constant nerve pain and cannot see out of my right eye. I was told that you need antiviral medication within 72 hours to not get nerve pain. I have had nerve pain since November. I am hoping I will not be permanent. Shingles are horrible.

Oh my word. Shingles really is an awful thing. It starts off disguised as something else and by the time it is diagnosed it’s often past that initial (and vital) 48 hour window. I do hope that you regain your sight to your right eye.

My 69 year old neighbor never got the vaccine and he got shingles and from the shingles he got a rare infection that went to his brain and killed him in 5 days. His sister told me she was always on him to get vaccinated but he never listened to her.

Thank you all. At least I now know that shingles will be with me for some time, that I can expect pain and discomfort, and that at my age (79) I should be grateful that I've never had shingles before! Here's to better health going forward.

At least you could use a laugh: at age 14 when I got it, YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHERE THE TRASH STARTED....YEAH, THERE. Wait, it gets better: guess what this horny 14 year old got for a doctor: a young , beautiful female doctor. I had to pull down my pants to tell her"it started here". Life is cruel. True story.

How did your visit go.

Internal shingles are awful especially when it takes 2 weeks before the dr suddenly realizes that’s what it could be.
