Low dose naltrexone for Post-Covid Recovery experiences?

Posted by radapanich @radapanich, May 15, 2023

Does anyone have experiences with low dose naltrexone for long Covid symptoms of significant brain fog, post-exertional fatigue, joint pain, muscle pain - inflammation, insomnia. A few studies in late 2022 indicate that low dose naltrexone 4.5 mg is helpful . Do you know of a specific doctor in NYC who prescribes it?

Homemarcy! Are you taking LDN for fatigue? Brain fog? Lack of energy? Neuropathy? Poor balance? Etc. Did your doctor prescribe LDN generally for LC, or because you had fatigue or some other symptoms in particular?

Hi Stuart,

This is what Dr. Grach at Mayo Rochester wrote about LDN in my notes:

"We discussed low-dose naltrexone (LDN), which we often use for fatigue, pain, and symptoms of dysautonomia in conditions such as fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, POTS, and autoimmune conditions. I am not aware of vasoconstrictive properties that would preclude LDN and we actually find that it can be beneficial in post-infectious endothelial dysfunction."

I do have fatigue, PEM, dysautonomia including elevated body temperature, brain fog, and heart symptoms due to endothelial dysfunction (chest pain and pressure, shortness of breath, etc). I'm hoping the LDN will help with many of those . . . But I've been taking it for less than a week so far, so we'll see.

LDN has been life changing for me. It greatly reduced my fatigue, brain fog and headaches, as well as completely made my photophobia go away. I started at 0.5mg dose and have gradually worked up to 3.5 mg/day. I used to take it in capsules from a compounding pharmacy but that was expensive since insurance would not cover the compounding. I now take in an oral form 1mg/1ml solution and dose with a syringe. It is incredibly cheap this way - less than $10 a year after insurance coverage.
