Has anyone ever shrunk an Aneurysm?

Posted by tripleaaa @tripleaaa, Apr 30, 2024

On 2/5/24 I took myself to the ER for ongoing sharp back pain (waited all day). The CT scan revealed a AAA at 7.9 on the verge of rupturing, plus 2 others. The next largest one is a 5.4 Ascending. I’m still recovering from the first life saving surgery and I was wondering in anyone has any information on shrinking an Aneurysm naturally.

I’m 51, in good shape and never smoked however I chewed tobacco or used nicotine pouches for 30 years (up until the surgery). My next scan is September. I’ve tried researching this topic but there is no information and no one says you can’t shrink it holistically but they also don’t offer any other information.

What is the life expectancy of someone with an ascending thoracic aneurysm?

I read an Italian study in the New England Journal of medicine that basically found that if you surive the dissection and surgery at least 30 days out, your average life expectancy is about 11 months longer than they would normally expect for you. The reason for that is because they speculated that you take better care of yourself once you have been through it. I can attest that you do! I have been waking up every morning now for almost 10 years since I had my dissection and I'm thankful for every day I have on earth and I am thankful for all of the people around me who love me and support me. I do not focus on what's behind me or what's in front of me. None of us are going to last forever, but while I'm here, and in the here and now, I am going to be of service to others. That's what gets me up every morning and no matter how long I'm here or how short every day will be just like the last. I'm so thankful to have been given all this extra time, and I honestly will tell you that after you've been through this surgery, you'll feel the same way. Peace.

Someone here on this site said they shrank it significantly by losing weight. I have also read that taking certain vitamins may shrink it a bit. Vitamins B, C, D. Do some research online

Mine was 4.9 diagnosed Jan 2020. Today it is 4.1. I have done alot of research exploring and by losing significant weight, stopping smoking, reducing stress and really focusing on consuming healthy foods, we exercising especially walking as much as possible, and other herbs and such that focus on arterial wall health, it has been stable bow for three years at 4.1, incredibly! God bless.

Can you share what herbs help with this?

7.9 ? That's way beyond when they say it will typically rupture. Wow. Thank God they caught it! I hope you are healing or have healed well. I have heard that there is no way to shrink AAA. I have one that is 4.79 and I'm a mess. It's on my mind 24/7. I have pain in the right side of my abdomen thru to my back that is dull. Don't know if it the AAA or just my sleeping position. I've had this pain on and off for years and doctors tell me they cannot figure it out. So, I'm a bit unnerved. Ugh.

I have dull pain in same area, and docs can't figure out what is causing it. Have you found out cause since your posting from June of 2024?

This might be a stretch but was wondering if your dull ache could be diverticulosis?
That can cause a dull pain ( usually on left I think but also can be on right) and it can come and . Just a thought

Pain is just below right boob, but on the side. And I had a scan of small intestines recently. And I have colonoscophy every two years. GI doc has no idea as to what causes this dull ache/pain.

Ditto. 24/7 trippin'. Do you ever throw up because of this? Isnt there a stent they can use instead of open heart sugery. I read CBD is very good for arterial tissue (see cbd johns hopkins). Mine is 4.3cm but my bp is all over the place. Got any advice i was just diagnosed in 4-25....

Yes there are stents for both ascending and descending aortic aneurysms. Endovascular stents are available for descending aortic aneurysms.
Recently (last few years), clinical trials began for ascending aortic aneurysms. Many, if not most, high volume academic centers are participating.
As with any clinical trial, requirements for patients to receive one are well delineated.
My husband and I were very enthused but then learned he didn’t qualify. Why? First of all, his aneurysm is 4.9 cm - I think it has to be 5.0 cm. The second reason was that there needs to be sufficient “landing areas” on each end (North &South) of the aneurysm for the surgeon to be able to attach the graft!
So it will be awhile. My husband’s aneurysm has been stable for years and so we are hoping to avoid surgery. Who knows! One can only hope!

Olmesartan (generic Benicar) has worked well for my BP. Atenolol was added upon discovery of my 4.8 cm ascending aortic aneurysm and bicuspid aortic valve. The atenolol slows heartbeat, thereby slowing the constant abnormally high pressure hitting by aorta due to the bicuspid valve. Helps with BP, too.
