Still no taste or smell?

Posted by denan210 @denan210, Feb 4 11:08pm

I don't know if anyone has asked this but I had covid 4years ago and to this day still can not taste or smell anything and the things that I can taste or smell are not the same as before covid. Is anyone else still having these problems?

I’ve had 7 Stellate Ganglion Block injections. They have given me more of a salty, sweet or bitter taste on my tongue when I eat. I also noticed that it has taken away my PTSD or anxiety, if you will. I am not jittery any longer, which is great! Not sure if I will be having any more, but it did help somewhat. Good luck!

Thank you, I didn’t know it could address so many things! Ppl never talk about the anxiety, depression and insomnia with this stupid virus

Haha, no worries! I thought maybe I had missed a new treatment for no taste or smell! Much luck to you! Well, you made me laugh and that’s a plus!

Haha, glad I made you laugh! In a roundabout way it was related, my sinuses got really messed up from my initial Covid which was 2023… ended up having surgery hit that.

I haven't been able to smell or taste since March 2020. My cousin either for 4yrs. We can detect if salty or sweet. I can smell my jar of VicksVaporRub usually but not always. I have a fleeting taste of ketchup occasionally. Once in awhile my toothpaste briefly. I used to be a good cook& really enjoyed it, but that joy is gone. Many people have posted about this symptom, but very rarely regained function. Sorry! I can still breathe, walk&talk so am blessed above many who have posted here. Love ❤️

I have the same issue almost 4 years now. The doctors have offered no assistance or advice. They just say they don’t know. Very occasionally for a split second I might taste something but immediately gone. It is very discouraging and depressing. I also have brain fog and not as quick as I used to be.

In regards to losing sense of taste and smell, I experienced the same thing after having COVID-19 in December 2023. I went to an ENT and they told me to do “olfactory training”, which is smelling certain essential oils for approximately 30 seconds at a time (3 x a day) while trying to “picture” the smell in your mind. I got a package of four common essential oils at Whole Foods. They are peppermint, eucalyptus, lemon and lavender. There are other oil scents recommended as well. The study for olfactory training comes from Harvard - if anyone would like to Google search the information. I’m not sure if the olfactory training helped me regain my sense of smell and taste but I continued the training for about 3 months and finally got my sense of smell and taste back after 10 months. That was such a relief even though my sense of smell wasn’t as heightened as it used to be.
Fast forward to May 2025 when I was sick with what seemed to be a sinus infection. Multiple COVID tests were negative. I have lost my sense of smell and taste once again. I have been using the essential oils for the olfactory training. I have been working with a naturopath doctor and she recommended a sinus medication mixed with distilled water that will be used as a flush with a netti pot or spray bottle. (Very important to use distilled water!) I’m waiting on the sinus medication to start this protocol. I will let you know if it works.
I want to add that regular doctors, like my primary care doctor, seem to just leave their patients with an “oh well, it happens” answer. I was told “Some people get their senses back and some don’t. You may never smell or taste again.” by my primary care doctor. That is not an acceptable answer. The answer should have been “let’s research this and find out how we can help you”. I had to request to see the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist the first time I dealt with this. Without them I wouldn’t have know about the olfactory training method. Very frustrating!
I recommend doing your research, seeking help from a specialist and looking into finding a naturopath doctor or a doctor of integrative medicine for further help. There are answers. I don’t take “No.” as one of them.
Don’t give up!

I’m in the same boat. Before Covid I had a keen sense of smell. I could smell things other people couldn’t. I also have brain fog, and I lost my organizational skills bc covid infected my brain which resulted in cognitive impairment. It’s been a long 4 years going into 5 and no improvement. I pray that we all can get some relief❤️

To add to my previous comment, I have started my sinus medication from my naturopath doctor. It is -AMPHOTERICIN/BUDESONIDE/TOBRAMYCIN - in capsules that I open and dissolve in distilled water in a neti pot. I then rinse it through both nostrils. twice a day. No change yet but hopeful.
* I hope this information can help someone that is experiencing the same issue with loss of taste and smell senses.*

Before Covid, I had a keen sense of smell. In fact, I could smell things that other people couldn’t . I got Covid March 2020 and never got my smell back anything like before. My smell is intermittent and short lived. My taste buds have returned.

I feel your pain but glad to be alive and breathing. I also have no sense of taste and limited smell since July 2021. I love to cook and have to ask if the food I made is good. Maybe it will return some day hopefully. Keep the faith.
