I asked google AI which said: Some sources suggest that a risk of less than 10% over 10 years for major fractures might be considered low risk.
At any rate at most it is moderate.
I took it for 5 years many years ago and had no symptoms
Good ideas for anyone a fall at any age can kead to complications. Normal aging is another reason tompractice caution around our homes
I think I'm in the same boat. How many mg are you taking? I'm assuming Alendronate is the generic form of Fosamax?
I was on fosamax for years. It sure didn't help me one bit.
Now I am taking Tymlos.
81 y/o F, took 2nd fosamax pill. Horrendous 12 days of high level of pain in every bone and muscle, disabling from basic tasks like dressing. Then, a ten-day course of Prednisone turned pain around remarkably in first 12 hours. Adverse reaction was just as described at nih website. Interested in learning more. Only Rx I take is for low thyroid. I have raynaud's and thalessemia. Things to avoid in the future?

1 ReactionFossamax was a true nightmare for me. I only took about 4 weekly pills when I noticed my back started hurting. By the eigth week I stopped taking because the pain had intensified and spread into my hip, groin, thigh bone, knee, and shin to the point I could barely walk. by another week I couldn't walk it was so painful. It felt like some one had taken a baseball bat to my shin. Was sent to both a Neurologist and Oesteopath, neither of whom said my MRIs and x-rays could possibly explain the level of pain. Finally was give script for Oxycodone which helped dull the pain enough that I thought I might survive. It took about 6 months for the symptoms to clear up, although I still have some ghost pains in my thigh and shin. All this was on my right side only. Devastating. I now tell my friends that is a Dr ever wants to prescribe Fossamax to not say no, say "Oh H*** NO! And run away as fast as you can! BTW, the local (rural) Dr still doesn't believe this had anything to do with Fossamax despite the reams of research supporting that it was that I gave her. If you decide to take Fossamax, stop taking it at the FIRST sign of unusual soreness or pain.

6 ReactionsI was on Prolia for 8 years. The first 2 I had minor side affects. After that, I gradually got worse to the point where the last 2 years I actually begged my doctor for a change in meds. Finally, he read a study that indicated that Fosamax was a good next choice. I have been on it 7 weeks and other than a few muscle cramps and feeling warm the next day I feel so far it is an alternative for me. I can eat again and my energy levels are much better. Time will tell if it helps my bones.
