Would like to know people's experience using Fosamax.

Decades ago I was on Fosamax. At about the 5 yr mark I went to the doctor with GI issues, diagnosed as GERD, and he suspected that it was caused by the Fosamax. My mother was also on Fosamax and developed such bad chest pain that she thought she was having a heart attack. Ends up that she had Barrett’s Esophagus, highly suspected to be caused by the Fosamax. I am now in Risedronate (Actonel) for two years with no issues. I am awaiting Dexascan results so we shall see if it has helped.

Just quit taking Fosomax due to esophagus pain and tightening, painful joints, and cramps. I take extra calcium, magnesium, vit K, biotin, and D3, but still have these symptoms. I do yoga, walk, and garden. Im 80 and otherwise healthy.

Because I took Fosamax I had to have a jaw joint replacement. Foxamax caused the left side of my jaw to crumble and now I have a metal jaw.

After using for five years, it rotted my jaw and four teeth brok. Took three hours and 10 shots to get out. The dental surgeon said that he won’t work on patient that use fosanex, but it was emergency.
Also had filling in root canal fall into my jaw, had to had my
Jaw drilled out.

@sonomagal22 There are "serious side effects" warnings from the manufacturer on the Alendronate Sodium enclosure, listing the major negative effects it can have on teeth and how it can cause severe jaw bone problems. I'm only surprised more members haven't mentioned it.

I am so sorry you had endure all of that--all in the name of getting healthy. Thank you for sharing your experience. It was helpful information for me and has caused me to reconsider taking it. (I'm 79.)

I’ve was on Fosamax for two separate 5 yr periods. Apparently it does nothing because I now have full blown osteoporosis in my right hip. Help this make sense. So I am now undergoing very, very expensive Evenity injections for a year. At the end of this year, my endocrinologist will determine next steps. I can’t help but wonder if the fact that my doctor decided NOT to put me on HRT when perimenopause raised its ugly head, added to the loss of bone density, among many other menopause-related health issues. There has to be a better way for doctors to care about us.

@sunny4daze

Are you saying that you did not follow fosomax with another bone medication? How is your most dexa scan after quitting fosomax?
