Hysterectomy 4 months after FIGO1 Endometrial Cancer Diagnosis
I am 61. Had spotting on 2/4/25. Saw GP on 2/5/25 for PAP. Transvaginal ultrasound results 1.6 CM thickness the following week. D&C on 3/4/25. Pathology report received following week Endometrial cancer FIGO 1. There is only one Gynecological Oncologist in my area & had to wait 3 was for appt. CAT scan & EKG on 4/22/25. Found out today my hysterectomy is not scheduled until 7/10/25. Waiting 4 months for surgery after the pathology report seems too long to me. I am going to try to get in another gynecological oncologists practice 1 hour from my home for 2nd opinion & hopefully get surgery sooner. What are your thoughts on a 4 month wait?

@cookercooker Thank you for your reply. How about if you write down your questions for the oncologist who is the head of the clinical study you are enrolled in? I hope you will get some clarification and will come back and share what your oncologist tells you.
@fos54235 It's great that the left leg groin pain is improving. I didn't have that after my hysterectomy and I don't recall anyone here on Mayo Clinic Connect commenting on that either. I don't even know how you would prepare for that either. Like you first wrote perhaps it had to do with your position during the surgery?
Many years ago I had inpatient surgery for a large kidney stone called a staghorn stone that was stuck up in the top part of my left kidney. For days after the surgery I had numbness and pain in my left forearms. I asked my surgeon as this seemed completely unrelated to the surgery and he said it was because of my positioning during the surgery. The numbness and pain went away within a few weeks.
Not the same as what you are describing but still related to positioning during surgery.

Glad to hear you’re doing better

1 ReactionYes, I had surgery Thursday. I'm doing surprisingly well, above my expectations for day 2. I had the usual gas bulging belly late yesterday, and felt like I'd been the punching bag at an MMA studio at the 24 hour mark... but that is much better, I'd say the gas is 90% gone (which might be related to my gentle but continuous activity level when awake).
Pain is well controlled on the pain med. As of noon, I'm trying the 1/2 a tablet instead of a full one - so far, I can feel the "bruising" and some pain but completely tolerable. So I hope to stick to the half-dose for the next 24, and then down to just Tylenol after that. (hope is the key word).
I have slept a lot - every time the urge hits me. Probably 18-20 hours of the last 24. When I am awake, though, I am mostly moving gently and walking. Down the street to the pharmacy (1 block each way), etc. with SIL as my walking buddy. Got in 1/2 mile total yesterday at my own pace per the watch. But I was a walker before, and lots of restless energy, so around the house has kept me sane. I just have to be extra careful not to overdue once my eagle-eyed SIL is no longer here to ride herd on my "do it" instincts.
The doctor did come out and tell my SIL that they "got it all" and my clin notes say no evidence of metastasis.
Now to just take care of my kidney until I get to the first week of Sept for that surgery. They've coordinated my 6 week followup for this, with the pre-op testing I need for the next surgery, so I'm on a roll. 7 appointments scheduled if you count the post-op for this and the labs!
I wrote a bit-too-lengthy a reply just a minute ago. I wasn't on yesterday, but felt better than expected, and better yet again today. I am blessed that it seems to be healing well. With the pending kidney surgery (in just 2 months), I need to be complication-free and back in reasonable health for success in that. It will be an inpatient/overnight. I really wanted to have these two together, so I'm not spending most of this year not well (Q1), chasing diagnoses, labs and test (Q2), post op from this (July & Aug) and post op from the PCNL (Sept & Oct). But... it was not to be. I remind myself how fortunate I am that the kidney stone caused me to have the scan, where they discovered the endometrial cancer early (It wasn't on my radar). And to be able to have such excellent medical care.
Not focusing on the next surgery yet at all, just on healing from this one and gratitude.
Thank you for asking!

2 Reactions@nikkiww7 All very good news! Your recovery sounds very much like mine. The gas that was used during surgery was still in my pelvic area and so that caused some pain. After about 24 hours the gas dissipated/absorbed and I felt much better. Like you I was more fatigued than anything else. I'm active and so I was doing the slow walks as my body allowed too.
While you have more surgery coming up in a few months it sounds like you are doing your best at keeping focused on your present recovery. You have an attentive care team who caught the endometrial cancer and so I can see why scheduling more than surgery (no one's idea of a good time) in a year results in feeling fortunate.
Will you please keep posting and let me know how you progress?

1 ReactionUpdate: After the block wore off more on day 4& 5 , the groin & hip pain intensified so much that I was unable to sleep for multiple nights. Tried heat, ice, meds except the oxytocin which makes me nauseous. I decided to try stretches today plus prescribed low dosage tramadol script to try. I was able to nap this afternoon. Surgeon said she had not heard of my issue before but given my previous back/ sciatica issue she suspects it’s inflamed from surgery & positioning. I’m thankful the pain is not constant & fingers crossed for a decent night sleep.
I hope your groin/hip continues to heal. I was worried about this - broke my hip (fractured the ball at the top of the femur) 2 years ago, and the significant adduction they did during that surgery has a residual that I doubt will go away. I asked them very specifically to be super careful with that right hip (on me) as they put me on the table. I couldn't imagine dealing with that pain again on top of this surgery. (The hip is still very limited in ROM).
I hope you can get some relief and /or physical therapy to get it closer to your usual, soon. How is your healing going for the surgery? @fos54235

1 Reaction@fos54235 The return and intensity of your current pain is just awful. Anytime pain interrupts one’s sleep as you’ve described I’ve been told by medical providers and physical therapists that this needs attention and treatment.
How was your sleep last night? Did the low dosage of tramadol and stretches help?
