Husband newly diagnosed
My husband is only 62 and was just diagnosed with Esophageal cancer. It sounds serious and I am very frightened. I want him to go to Boston which is only 35 minutes away where they appear to have a specialty group. How long can the wait be?

How are you both ? Ive been thinking about you.
Hi Shelly, how are things for you both today ? Thinking of you and Rich. It’s a struggle getting to a place where you can start and begin to feel a little more positive..you can get there…. Sending hugs x
Just checking in Shelly hope you and Rich are doing ok. Hope the treatments you’re getting are helping. Thinking of you.
Hello!
Friday we are supposed to have a "chemo education" class and Monday, 6/30 is supposed to be his first treatment. I am very nervous and scared for him.
I have no idea what to expect. Many folks are telling me some horrible stories of vomiting and worse. I am hoping he is strong enough to get through it.
I'm hoping for a miracle....

2 ReactionsI’m so sorry you’re going through this. As a caregiver myself, I think my best advice I can give you, is prepare for your doctor visit so that you write down all the questions that both the patient and the caregiver have.
As the caregiver you have to stay in the moment and take it one day at a time. For my husband and I, once we knew the whole treatment plan , we broke it down into segments, the first four sessions of chemo, etc., the next step, etc. it helps us stay in the moment and not have our minds. be overwhelmed by the enormity of everything.
Fortunately, he has been through four chemo sessions and has had minimal side effects. The most impactful was fatigue.
Best wishes God bless.

5 ReactionsHello Definitely know how you feel not knowing what exactly is going to happen. So write down any questions you might have and no there is no dumb questions. You should get a binder which will have all kinds of information. Now everything in the binder will not necessarily happen to your husband. I know the waiting is hard. But getting started is some relief. Having a positive mindset is more helpful than you might think for yourself and your husband. Not easy but helps emotionally and physically and mentally. You won’t know until you actually start the treatments everyone is different. I was pretty good a little nausea but with nausea medicine I was fine. So he might do fine which I’m hoping for you guys. Also nutritionist can help along with doctors and nurses. I’ll be thinking of both of you be well and remember you can always talk to anyone here even as your starting the treatments.

4 ReactionsThank you so much for the encouragement. I have decided that one day at a time is all I can handle without going crazy. Good to hear your husband has had minimal side effects. I hope all is going well.
Thank you again and so much for the well wishes. I send you my best as well.
Hugs!
Thank so much for checking in! The visit today was a little overwhelming. Three months for the first phase going every two weeks with evaluation before each treatment.
I am glad they are so precautious but I am hoping that things go well for him. They did mention the anti nausea meds and we will see how that goes.
They also said we would have a nutritionist and some counselors and to just call if we have any concerns.
Everyone is so kind.
Monday's the day. Last day in June....
