Effexor Tapering Off and Side Effects

Posted by gaile12 @gaile12, Aug 22, 2022

I am tapering off Effexor after being on it for over a decade. I've noticed my stomach gets queasy & I have digestion issues. Has anybody else had this problem?

I have been suffering terribly with protracted withdrawal from Effexor. I am losing my ability to walk as I have no balance. I look anorexic. My tinnitus is so loud that it’s really affecting me. My hair is falling out and my heart palpitations make me feel that I am dying. I don’t know what to do. I no longer have a life.

These antidepressant withdrawals are brutal. Trying to find a doctor that understands is near impossible.

Has anyone had nausea while tapering off Effexor? If so, what have you done to help it? Anyone tried Zofran? I am afraid to do so because it is said that it could cause serotonin syndrome.
I have tried cannabis gummies that are very high in CBD and very low in THC.. It's the CBD that is supposed to help with nausea. It did help the nausea but made me tired.

I have the nausea and lack of appetite for sure. The anxiety that comes with withdrawal adds to it. I tried ginger lozenges, but found the taste awful! There's nothing much that has helped besides Saltine crackers. I can't wait to be off this med and put the horrible symptoms of withdrawal behind me. Good luck!

I take CBD/CBG oil. The CBD counters the almost too relaxed feeling one can get from CBD. There are many companies that have this concoction for sale. Just Google it. I take an antidepressant and it works well with this hemp product for extra help with anxiety.

I had the same problem tapering off its cousin cymbalta. Ginger gum helped a little. My doctor prescribed anti-nausea pills which also helped. I finally had to grit my teeth and tough it out. Unfortunately CBD and related products do nothing for me. I have tried multiple forms and combinations with THC. These products must be bought through state-sanctioned dispensaries in my state.

Hello,
I tried tapering off Paxil and could not handle it. I went back to the therapeutic dose and experienced nausea and a lot of anxiety with agitation. I was extremely tired. My Psychiatrist explained that when tapering and then going back to the original dose one experiences many uncomfortable residual effects due to our brains readjusting again. Antidepressants are very powerful when it comes to the chemistry in our brains.

Hello everyone, I have been in effexor for fifteen years been on 150 for seven. Finally found out a lot of my issues were do to ADHD so was on the wrong med. Finally think I found a good ADHD medsso been trying to lower my dose of effexor with psychatrist help. I went from 150 to 75. During the first few weeks felt vertigo and Shakey that went away. Then about four weeks into it felt body shocks. Now I feel like itchiness in scalp and tingling and brain zaps. Is this a normal side effects? Also thinking I jumped to big of a dose so thinking about going up 37.5 then taper off again from there. I do have a psych and he recommended that he is fantastic. It's been hard and stressful. But I am getting through it. Thank you for listening. Blessings.

I was on 112.5mg of XR for chronic pain. I started to taper from it over 20 weeks ago by cutting every 2 weeks. It was changed to IR in liquid form and I split it into 3 doses a day. Problem is I never did the math on how much the psychiatrist was cutting every time. I wasn't having issues at first as soon as I came down to around 60mg I'm getting stomach pain constantly, lost weight because can't eat due to pain, insomnia is horrible 3 4 days no sleep. I'm at 31mg and I can't keep going like this. I did the math and if I ask for an adjustment to cut 10% of the last dose every 2 weeks will take me another year or so to get off this horrendous drug. Is there a way I can ask to be given another medication that can cover effexor so I don't have to take it anymore and taper off that other one then. This is too painful.

Will I face withdrawal if I cross to another antidepressant? Please inform me.

I was on several kinds of antidepressants since I was 15 years old for anxiety, and I am 66. They all had horrible side effects. Your doctor can help you with the best antidepressant to taper for you. Effexor is difficult to discontinue, but it can be done. I was on it for a good 10 years. I have been off it for 4 years next month, and I still have occasional brain zaps. Took me years of tapering off the drug, then giving up, but I finally got there! Good Luck, and you can do this!
