Abdominal Aorta stenosis

Posted by manisham @manisham, Jun 3 3:07am

Aortic atherosclerosis, resulting in severe narrowing of the abdominal aorta down to 0.5 cm. This showed up in report at hospital as an incidental finding after a serious ground fall with stitches in upper forehead . I was told that I had lost consciousness . Luckily my daughter was with me. I googled it to see what it means, before appointment with my cardiologist! Opinion on AI is very serious or not so serious. I have history of multiple cardiac arrest and 6 stents! I have heard of aortic aneurism but not narrowing of it! Any advice or guidance or prognosis!!!! I am on Repatha shots ( 2x/mo) and Lipitor. Plus all other heart meds.

@ih60

Thanks for the reply. I was just diagnosed with the same issue: severe atherosclerosis in the abdominal aorta. I don’t know the extent of the narrowed aorta and will have an ultrasound next week. I’m trying to read what I can and most responses says it’s a serious condition, but I saw a cardiologist this week and he said it’s not that rare a condition for older people. Did you have your appointment with your vascular surgeon yet? I would be interested in what you find out. Thank you and please take care. You’ve been through a lot.

Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis! Yes, I did see my Vascular surgeon after abdominal sonogram. Due to stomach gases, tech could not see the full aorta. Part of aorta was ok! Surgeon has requested MRI imaging disc from AZ hospital where MRI was done, while traveling! So let’s see! I have appointment with cardiologist 7/10! Yes when you research all these, results are concerning! But there are no option other then to go with what the experts tell you! Like cardiologist and Vascular surgeon. With my past multiple cardiac arrest history, I am trying to be as proactive as possible! And keep my medical team aware of it all. But I am always hopeful and positive! They have come through for me many times!
Wishing you all the best! And please keep posting and sharing!
