@jimhd How wonderful that you fill your life with a variety of activities. That is so important! Depression is the one thing that will not get better with bed rest. Your life style shows great wisdom, Jim. Thanks for allowing us to get to know you better, you are an asset to our group here at Mayo Connect. Teresa
(PS I like what you said, "depression doesn't seem to live by any rules." So true!)

Hi Gail,
There are several ways to send an emergency message. I recommend that you do BOTH of these:
1. Click REPORT to the right of the message that you are concerned about. Mark the message as [URGENT] and explain the situation.
2. Send a message to the moderating team using this form https://connect.mayoclinic.org/contact-a-community-moderator/ Again mark the message as [URGENT].

@johnhans I am sorry to hear of the difficulty you are having with depression and the isolating effects of health problems. Transportation is a serous problems for seniors. Is there any senior transportation in your vicinity? What about NAMI support groups? If these are not possible, you might try some "book-therapy." Do some reading by authors who specialize in depression. David Burns comes to mind as one author who writes about changing your thoughts so that your mood will change. Let's hear what some others are reading, Can you suggest some authors or books about dealing with depression, @georgette12 @jimhd @johnjames @rspaulling @safetyshield?

Been off posting for awhile but i did want to take time to say why and tell you i am still with all of you in spirit and my thoughts are constently with all my new friends on this forum . i seem to be plummeting downward and have stayed away so i would not spread my negativity and increasing depression. But i do want to acknowooedge y8urm posrpts. I cannot seem to actuaoo6 put sentencesn togeth3r to spell corr3c5lymwhat i am trying to swy. I can5mw33m to g3t the letters together anr i canno5 correct them as its too frustratng. So i hope you can figure out my response.
Jim, please dont think you should not be depressed. You feel what you feel and i have found it better to honor my feelings no matter what.
I find that its less stressful to be honest with myself about me...and not worry one bit about you or someone else thinking you should feel other than what you reaaly feel.be who you are and accept yourself andnbe proud of overcoming your challenges. And are continuing to overcome, or maybe even accepting where yiu are at the time. Even though you have these challenges, pleas3 know you are perfect the way you are...whatever that may be at thentime.

I was wondering if there are other books out there that have helped any of you, @jimhd @johnhans @lesbatts @gailb @georgette12 @rspaulling, please share with us titles and authors and let us know what was helpful to you. You are all so thoughtful and encouraging, I feel blessed to have met you through this remarkable online forum! Teresa

Thank you for the information. I click the Report, but i don't think I said urgent. I hope your post stays on this site so we can continue to have access to it. I may have over reacted, but i thought that was better than doing nothing in case there was really a problem. Gail

Hi @georgette12 and All, I just noticed on one of your posts that you are having an issue with MCC and drafts. As @colleenyoung responded, I do not think that the ability to save drafts is available at this time. Frankly I am not sure whether they will ever offer it for several reasons including the amount extra space they would need and the cleanup that would need to be done on a regular basis to trash the orphaned drafts.
May I suggest that you use notebook, word or some other text app. that you can save your drafts to while you "multi-task". Once you are done with, & happy with your message you can post it via cut & paste. Viola. Not great, but an alternative.
BTW, I too learned by way of the disappearing draft!!! ha ha

Hi everyone, I just started reading this because I got an email. I think anyone that has severe and prolonged trauma in childhood should consider whether they have dissociative disorder. It's a trauma related disorder from childhood trauma. Your mind splits in childhood to deal with trauma. It allowed you to function even though people were hurting you. Not allowed to talk about it. Be normal. Get good grades. Keep secrets. Pretend everything is OK when it is not. I deal with my dissociative disorder by reading my Bible every day, hiking in the woods, and seeing a psychologist weekly that understands dissociative disorder. I do go to church but I don't expect people to understand. I go to church for worship and a pastoral message. They aren't able to deal with mental health because they're not professionals. Forgive them. Live. Linda
