Insomniac for 35 years

Posted by kasey7 @kasey7, 1 day ago

I have been an Insomniac for decades. I sleep about 2 hours and wake up as often. I have not had a full nights sleep in all that time. I tried a prescription sleep medication and ended up in "sleep paralyzation" where I couldn't wake up. That was really frightening.
I have a Sensory Hypersensitivity issue as well. Basically my hearing, eye sight/sensitivity to light/ flashing lights etc./ touch/ odors - those things are like "Superman" and this is no fun. I can't shut any of it out and it all comes in so fast.
I use a fan for white noise at night, keep the room as cold and dark as I can (I am also a Migraineur). I have a soft mattress, not soft enough, it feels like concrete to me. My husband passed away 20 months ago (pancreatic cancer), before that he used to rub my forehead gently and my neck until I fell asleep and I could get 4 hours sleep at one time then the every 2 hour wake up would start.
Has anyone had success with getting at least 2 -four hour sections of sleep at night?

Ever since I had a stroke more than six years ago, my sleep has been terrible.
Like you, I wake up every couple of hours, mostly due to pain.

I've tried everything, with no luck.

Unfortunately, that means I can offer you empathy, but no practical help.

I hope you can find an answer soon, and if you do, please share it!

@kasey7 I was advised to use “green” noise to get deeper better sleep. It absolutely works.

Just before you go to bed, using you phone or any device you have, go on YouTube. Search for “green” noise, and up will come choices for listening. I do the 24 hour, no commercial, black screen.

So, turn off the white noise. Try the green.

Oh, by the way I have a sleep disorder. It’s idiopathic Hypersomnia. My brain doesn’t get enough rest. Since I have been using the green noise I feel so much better!

Susan: I looked at several of the Green Noise videos on YouTube, all the ones I saw had comments about ads waking them up in the night, even the video's that say "no ads". Can you tell me which one you use on YouTube? I would really love to try this! Kasey7

Scott: I am going to try the "Green Noise" youtube video tonight. I hope I found one with no ads. SusanEllen on this site said it has helped her. I have asked her which one she uses, in order to avoid being awakened by ads, hopefully she will get back to me today. I will let you know if it makes a difference. Kasey7

An ad has popped in on me once in the 3 weeks I’ve been using it.
I will take a screenshot and post it.

I pressed on the green noise thing but nothing happened.

I’ve dealt with insomnia on and off for many different reasons for decades. But since May 2024, I average 2 hours of sleep a day. However, this week I am beginning to get an hour, two hours and even three hours more, thank God. I hope this trend will continue. I have no idea what has changed. Not me. I was doing everything right.

When I do sleep for two hours, I awake and bounce out of bed and feel like I need to get things done. I can’t seem to be glad for all I get done in a day and just forget the undone. I even go off my to do lists and start scratching items off tomorrow’s to do list. I don’t have anyone to answer to, so I’m not trying to impress anyone.

Please help!

This ZZZ one had several comments about ads. I did find one on YouTube by "Let's Find Out" who has 379k followers. I read several comments and all said no ads, so I am trying this tonight. I have it uploaded to my iphone. Praying this will help!
