Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy
Hello, anyone had a child that did a Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy (T&A), my son is scheduled for surgery on Friday coming at hospital and the Dr spoke to us and explained everything and what to expect afterwards and so on but I still prefer to hear from a parent that actually experienced the surgery with their child, my son is five, he hates taking medication, he won't eat or drink at all when his tonsils are infected, I'm so worried about after the surgery because the Dr said the best way for the throat to heal is by eating and drinking and even though it will be painful he has to in order for the dead tissue to be replaced by new one.

Hello @pamelacelia,
I moved your message to your original posting on "Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy" to give other members the full background of your story and your son.
I am sorry he has been hurting. Is his pain better compared to three days ago? How is he doing today?
Hello thanks for your concern, he's back to his normal self, the tummy pain turned out to be gas, I took him to the dr and she gave him something for it which seems to be working well because he's had no complaints since, so I'm happy he's well on his way to full recovery.
Great news!!! So happy for him. Give him hugs from us.
Dawn
Thanks @dawn_giacabazi

Is anyone familiar with lingual tonsillectomy and their child had theirs removed? How long was recovery, until you were able to notice a difference?

Hi, @lyndsayventuri. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I've moved your post over here where you can meet others who've gone through tonsillectomy with their children. Though they were not discussing lingual tonsillectomy in particular, I thought they might have some information that would be helpful to you.
@lyndsayventuri -- is your child scheduled for this surgery soon?
Hello @lyndsayventuri, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Thank you for posting!
Here is some great information on how to prepare and what to expect from the experts- https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/tonsillectomy/about/pac-20395141
@pamelacelia and @dawn_giacabazi- do you have any experience to add?
At 30 years old I had my tonsils out. As an adult, it was a two week recovery. I wish my pediatrician would have helped in making the decision when I was younger. To this day- I still say it was awful but 100% worth it. I was so sick and always had a sore throat when I was younger. Post tonsil removal- I hardly ever have problems with sore throat or colds. I noticed a difference within 6 months of having my tonsils out.
@lyndsayventuri , What are your biggest concerns? how old is your child?
Hello, I glad you're recovering, my son had his tonsils and adenoids removed over a year ago but his nose is still runny all the time, I thought after his surgery it would've stopped, he doesn't snore as much as he used to though, our pediatrician didn't recommend the surgery either even though my son was suffering from infections continually, he wasn't putting on weight because when his throat hurt which was most of the time he didn't used t eat or drink anything at all, he missed a lot of school and took a lot of antibiotics, he used to be so sick, so we went to another doctor who immediately recommended the andenoidectomy, I'm glad that part at least is over, my main concern now is the continual runny or stuffy nose.
Thank you! My daughter had a tonsillectomy and adnodecotmy last May. She recently had a lingual tonsillectomy as well as palatine tonsillectomy revision and removal of adnoild nub that was either left behind or had already started to grow back. She’s still experiencing throat pain the same as before surgery so I just wondered if others had experience with the lingual tonsils as I know It’s not overly common. Last Friday was 3 weeks and we have to give It 6 weeks.
