What do you think of Lexapro?

I was on 10 mg for awhile and it stopped working optimally. My doctor took it up to 20 mg and it's doing a much better job. But antidepressants are a crap shoot. Some work for one person and not another. If it isn't working (or you are having intolerable side effects) tell your doctor you want to try something else. There are bunches of choices and it may take a while to find one that works for you. I've been on antidepressants for years, and my experience is it works until it doesn't - all of sudden your body says, "Nope, done with this one." and you have to find something else. Good luck.

Hello , yes I've been on something for depression/anxiety for since 1992 when I first got sober. This is the first time Lexapro was added in. I take 50 mg Welbutrin am & 10 mg Lexapro pm. It's doing better for the merry go round I was on.
So far... So good. I know nothing is permanent.

I was on Wellbutrin for years. It caused me to have sores inside my mouth (which my doctor told me could not be caused by the drug - but which I found out later is a known side effect - ugh). It worked pretty well for a while, and then stopped working for me. I went on to citalopram, which again worked for years and then stopped working. Now I'm on Lexapro (escitalopram) and it's working for however long it works.

I remain interested in anyone experiencing long term effects upon quitting. I was never on more than 10 mg: the first time for three years, off for one year, then back for another 12 months. Both episodes of use were for anxiety and revolved around terminal illness/caring for/death of a loved one. Both times I tapered off very slowly, even much slower than the doctors recommended schedule. Since that time, I am managing emotionally but continuously feeling floaty/foggy/dizzy/disoriented. I have only recently begin to consider that what I am experiencing may be post Lexapro withdrawal. Although I have complained about this to my primary physician as well as my rheumatologist in my ophthalmologist. None of them have connected Lexapro to my symptoms. Help?

I should add that I have now been off for 12 months.
Also, my initial adjustment each time was very difficult. No physical symptoms other than extreme lethargy. Once I got to the therapeutic level, it was a great relief for the anxiety I was experiencing.

I'm taking a combination of Wellbutrin and Lexapro. I've never felt better! I ask myself, "Do normal people wake up like this every day?" I have finally stopped feeling hatred towards everyone, being angry about everything. I never realized how exhausting it was. I used to react negatively toward every situation, mad at the smallest things. Now I just let things roll off my shoulders and often don't even react. My husband and I joke and say, "Life with Lexy!" when I just laugh at something that used to set me off.

For me, this combination has saved my life.

I am on 30 mg of Paxil and I feel like it is loosing its affect. My Dr has suggested switching to Lexapro. If you or anyone is now on Lexapro please let me know if it has helped with depression and anxiety. I am 78 yrs old.

Yes it has helped me with anxiety and depression. You can also pair it with another anti-depressant based on your Dr’s suggestion

I have been on Lexapro since 2023 when I started using an aromatase inhibitor for breast cancer. It has worked well for me and I have had very few side effects that I am aware of. Lexapro does not exactly fill me with joy; it just evens out the ups and downs of my emotions. All in all, I have been quite pleased with it. By the way, I am now 76.
