Blood pressure meds and side effects
My doctor prescribed Lisinopril 40mg, Amlodipine 10mg and Metoprolol 50mg since March 2025. Side effects are for me diaharra every couple of days, ankle swelling, bad sleep and dreams, very sleepy during the day to the point I'm so tired, depressed and frustrated. Doctor says no real worry but I am to the point I'm thinking of cutting Metoprolol in half and maybe even Amlodipine in half. Doctor doesn't seem to help figure out how to fix my anxiety over the side effects.

I am wondering why you have 3 different kind of medication?
Is your blood pressure so high?
And why not higher Lisinopril instead of 2 additional?
I am just thinking loud.
I take Lisinopril 100 mg and my blood pressure is fine, no side effects.
I agree with you. I believe that if we change doctors like I did, the new doctor just adds to the old doctor's prescription instead of prescribing the higher dose of lisinopril. I'm going to ask that question of my doctor. Thank you for replying!
Hi,
I'm on 5mg lisinopril after reacting to all possible other alternatives. I'm experiencing some mild side effects and little change in my blood pressure. The concept of taking several BP meds is to spread the possible side effects while trying to keep them acceptable, it is common with BP meds and can be with diabetic medication as well.
The reality is all medications have side effects, it comes down to what each individual can tolerate or not.
Cheers
This is just a shot in the dark and tagging on to the post from "rainerhans" here I noticed you were prescribed 3 drugs but are considering decreasing only 2. I've been taking those two for years with no side effects that I can determine. Of course we all are different let alone in response to Rx, Not asking for a response here but wondered why the third wouldn't be a consideration as well.
I can tell you from my experience that Amlodipine can cause swelling in your ankles, feet, and legs (edema). I had to switch to a beta blocker (Carvedilol) to help control blood pressure. Also, Losartan is a possible alternative to Lisinopril. I'll add, though a little off topic, that it can be very discouraging when you know that the side effects of medications that you are given to control blood pressure can make you feel more lethargic and cause soreness or muscle pain when you try to exercise. Diet and exercise (e.g. walking) can help control weight and blood pressure in a more natural way.
The Lisinopril I've taken for a few years and it didn't bother me but my BP became a bit higher. I've sent a message to my new doctor asking why not just up the dose of Lisinopril but haven't received a response yet.
May I ask you If your Amlodipine cause you to have stomach cramps and diarrhea? Been on it for 2 years and have had these symptoms every day. About 4 times a day or more? Thank you
I am asking for my husband. Not for myself. Sorry I did not specify that I was asking for him. Sorry.
Thank you! You've given me an argument, or conversation to have with my doctor, lol!
I'm no expert by a long shot ... possibly a change per adding the other Rx to the "mix" if you get my point. I take one that makes me off balance in the AM but not the second dose in the evening. Makes no sense at all ...
